If they are moved, once the buds have formed, I believe the buds/flowers, whilst opening, can then twist towards where the light now is, and in the process cause the buds to fall off (seems to be a bit of an occupational hazard selling Xmas Cacti in bud!!)

I expect that a [significant] change in temperature / humidity could cause a similar effect

nothing, that is the way they behave. Just water them monthly. put them outside after no frost, bring in before October frost and they will bloom next year.

Several of mine are in bud now too Rosie. Make sure they have plenty of light and a feed during their flowering season and they should be fine. :)

They don't like being moved, when in bud ... fingers crossed! Best to leave it be, where it now is, if you can :)

They don't like sudden changes in temperature. Flower bud formation is governed by day length, as days shorten they start to form flower buds. Mine go out in the greenhouse in spring, not full sun and then come in around about now when I see buds on them.
If they are kept in the living room, or similar, all year round then the indoor lighting can prevent flower buds forming.

I have a fairly old large Christmas Cactus which I moved last week from a central position in the Kitchen over to the South facing window but I took care to make sure it wasn't in bud when moving it. That said it will probably take a week of two until it gets used to difference in the light but it should flower nicely with a bit of luck.:coffee::snork:

Yep all mine are outside I have a bursting collection now of named hybrids :)

This one I bought from Morrisons in 2012 with no name but I'm pretty sure it's 'Thor Olga'

                  and flower from last year:

Most of the ones sold in Europe (and the US I believe as well now that Mark Cobia is no longer producing?) come from one of two nurseries in Denmark, Rosa Danica and Thoruplund so if your savvy you can usually work out from the packaging which one it has come from and then use the photo catalogues on their website to put a name to it :)
