To be fair, I wouldn't want Pete to be any other way. Top bloke
A thread like this was always going to stir up some emotions, but yes, some nice pics Jenny :dbgrtmb:

Look, Freddy, while I totally agree with you, [and Pete knows it], we don't praise Pete or tell him nice things because he then asks to be called "Sir, or God" ..........so keep it quiet.:dunno::heehee:

Freddy the cheque is in the post mate:snork:
Armandii, so is yours, but since the last post, yours will bounce;)

I'm kind of glad its been moved by the Mods to a separate thread if it was upsetting Jenny.

My reason for disagreeing with @Marley Farley s post, (and I dont push the disagree button often), is.
"Since February 2005 Fox hunting has been banned, now it is mainly trail hunts, where a scent is laid then the hunt starts.."

"Mainly trail hunts"? what are the others?
Its often been said that should the hounds pick up a fox scent they are likely to follow that rather than the trail, and those on horseback have no control over the hounds once they get a scent, thereby making the hunters totally blameless should a fox be killed.

"It is still an amazing sight to see and without the cruelty.. Hunting is part of the historic culture of ours since the 1600s.."

So was bear baiting, cock fighting.
I'm pretty certain that they have not yet given up hope in overturning the law at some stage in the future.
It was stated when the ban started that there would be whole packs of hounds put down along with many horses, due to the fact they will not have a purpose any more.
Not sure if that actually happened?

I've got pretty strong views on animal cruelty, but making a spectacle out of it and calling it sport actually takes it higher level.

I have to admit, apart from once coming across a bunch of the gentry milling around on a country lane some years ago, I dont actually know anyone who hunts, not sure I want to.

I like to see the gentry dress up in their hunting gear and I also like to see the horses and ponies, what with being a horsey person(started riding aged 3) the thing I objected to was the fact that the poor fox was ripped to shreds by the hounds so it wasn't a very pleasant end to its life so now I am glad that fox hunting as been banned but I also have read this week that if Cameroons lot gets back into power next May then fox hunting will be reinstated something I won't be happy about if it does:sad:

                PS Pete for PM:santa clap:

Well Pete we obviously will have to agree to disagree..

Your views are different to mine, maybe from my upbringing or maybe not, but that is life.. Thankfully we do all have our own views, so therefore there is variety in life...

Agreeing to disagree, is often the only option, and I do agree on the point that maybe its to do with where you were brought up.
I know townies are often slated by country folk for not understanding what goes on out there, but I just wish I'd lived in the country.

Perhaps just a few of the townies actually appreciate the countryside a bit more than those that actually live there, and see it in a different light.

Could it be a case of you only appreciate something if you aint got it.

As a bumpkin I object to fox hunting. As a kid I spent many happy days walking local farms with my Gramps shooting bunnies, pheasants and best of all (for Gramps) foxes. He hated foxes but he hated the hunt even more. As he said it does naff all to control foxes and was inhumane. He reckoned that they deserved to die but he believed that it should be quick.
The game bird shoots are little better. A bunch of Hooray Henrys tooled up for the day all too often maiming panicked birds which have to be put out of their misery.

Thanks Pete, I have been a country girl all my life, apart from a very short spell living in Tottenham which was stifling for me.. I love the countryside and what goes on in it.. I don't like the towns and cities and what goes on there.. So agreeing to disagree is the only way for me Pete as we are so far apart on our thoughts..
