I wonder why they're taking her all the way to London, when the logical route takes her right past the other hospital that has prepared, the RVI in Newcastle.

As a slight aside, this bit caught my eye:

"According to UK and Scottish protocol "

UK and Scottish? Did Scotland vote Yes after all then?

Also this bit: "Passengers on both the flight from Casablanca to Heathrow and Heathrow to Glasgow are being traced and contacted. They will be given the appropriate advice and reassurance.".

And if those in authority have any sense, 'appropriate advice and reassurance" will mean "a few routine tests asap and close monitoring over the next few weeks".

Now come on, if she landed in Scotland she is Scotland's problem, they shouldn't be allowed to export her down here.

She landed in Heathrow. One of the busiest airports in the world and in one of the most heavily populated areas.

So why did they take her to Glasgow?

Perhaps we could send her back to Casablanca.
          Play it again Sam.

"They" didn't. She took herself there. She didn't report any symptoms til she got home.

This might sound a bit harsh, but given the seriousness of this disease, I'm surprised that people who have been treating ebola patients are allowed to fly on normal commercial flights without going through a spell of quarantine. I don't know if the law has changed but certainly when I was a kid, if you took an animal across certain international boundaries, they quarantined the animal for a while just in case it has picked up rabies. Rabies is considerably less dangerous or contagious than ebola, so I don't understand why we let people travel without restriction from ebola infested areas. Especially when that person has actually had exposure to people confirmed to have ebola. I'm not suggesting we stick her in a cage for 6 weeks. I just think these good people (and they are good people) should spend a few weeks in some nice but controlled environment for a few weeks before being allowed to travel without restriction.

The stats are that upto 90% of those that contract it die, and the facts are that it is highly contagious and there is no cure.

Still no reason to panic yet though. I agree that statistically the chances are remote, but they would be nil with better management. Another fact is that even the world health organisation have criticised the management of it.

The timing couldn't be worse either. Early symptoms are fever and sniffles. Its winter. Lots of people will be catching colds. How many of those people will panic and overwhelm the NHS?

                  Nope
The article below shows Ebola compared to other diseases . Swine flu was a real killer but I can't recall it being reported as much ? A professor of tropical medicines on TV two weeks ago said its not possible for Ebola to become an epidemic in the UK "It doesn't work like that." he stated . I am sure that the Daily Express will report that people will be dropping (into 8" of snow !) in the streets.

The problem with quarantining someone before they return is that they are in a country that already doesn't have a good system of medicine or quarantine. So, would you still trust them to have been clear of the disease?

The WHO put it at an average of 50%, varying in each outbreak from 25% to 90%.

You're correct in saying that there is no one cure.
"Early supportive care with rehydration, symptomatic treatment improves survival. There is as yet no licensed treatment proven to neutralise the virus but a range of blood, immunological and drug therapies are under development."

Thankfully western societies are rather squeamish about death and tend not to hug and kiss the recently departed.

According to the Daily Wail two more people have been tested for Ebola in the UK:sad:

Still not worrying about it though as our village is built on what was a so called plague village when the Black Death was around but how much of that is true I am not sure:snork:

Also in the news 40 bodies have been recovered from that missing Indonisian aircraft and fancy putting up a piece on the local news of film showing a body floating in the water so that the relatives can get even more distressed:frown:
