"The Muslims"? The muslim family I lived next door to didn't seem to be taking over anything. Nor did the one of the road.

If the muslims are taking over, we'd be better off abandoning Britain and finding somewhere else, because in Islam they don't really think in terms of nationality. They see it as they are all brothers and sisters. That means if they really are taking over, we're in trouble. Or another way to look at it could be this. With the exception of a minority that the media portrays as 'normal', thus creating a lot of resentment among the ignorant, "The Muslims" are just people, like you or I, who just want to earn a living and provide food, clothes and shelter for their families.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but what would the Mayor have us do?

Agreed, but as they have much larger families than we do a 'takeover' is almost inevitable.
Look at this google map which shows how many mosques have been put up in the UK, sure feels like a takeover bid to me!!

This would matter if Britain was a Christian nation. Which technically it is, but how many of 'native' Brits are Christian? Really I mean. I was Christened as a baby, and I believe that Jesus did in fact exist, and that he was a good lad, but some sort of magical deity? I don't believe that. Some people do. Fair play to them. That's their choice. But here's the thing. If you are atheist and begrudge those that have a religion, then surely you are just begrudging someone for having something you have not got. If you are Christian, then surely you would be tolerant of others regardless of, as I think it says somewhere in the bible, "colour or creed".

Or, if it is not a religious concern at all, then why should it matter how many mosques there are? I could argue that Tesco is slowly but surely taking over. Tesco stores are popping up everywhere. I don't remember there being any when I was a kid, now they're everywhere. Tesco is changing the British way of life. When I was a kid, my mam used to shop at multiple stores, mostly small independents. Now everyone goes to Tesco. Tesco is taking over. They buy up land and build on supermarkets on it and the small independents go out of business. We need a UKIP like party to say 'No more Tesco'. Now how silly does that sound? Its the same thing.

Agree Clueless, where on earth is this thread going? I can't remember when I heard so much about "them". I want to live in a world which is about "us", I don't mind who lives next door. The world is changing, people and communities are evolving and thank goodness for that, I've learned so much from my various contacts with people of different cultures, beliefs and history and I do believe I'm all the better for it.

I have a relative who was in hospital recently, treated and cared for by Jamaican, Indian, Ukrainian, Polish, Hungarian, English, Welsh, Irish and Scots staff - and they're just those I've met. They worked as a team, showed respect for their colleagues, cared for their patients and families and I'm so glad they were all there.

I've had cards and messages from family & friends happily and successfully scattered all over the world and I bet that's the same for most of us. The world is a melting pot and we're just one small part of it.

I think, and I only think, the Mayor of Calais would like it if we stopped putting out the welcome mat for any old Tom, Dick or Harry from any part of the world who is looking for Eldorado.
They dont want to stay in France, they want to get to the UK, we must be doing something wrong.

As to Muslims, I think its inevitable that at some point in the future they will not just take over the UK, but probably most of the world.
As has been said, Christians are on the way out, cant claim to be one myself really, so its that kind of apathy that will let them.
Along with a large pinch of PC.
              Which they dont have.

Or would it be better if Britain was a horrible place to live?

People shunning france and and trying to get into Britain says more about france than Britain.

Did Cameron not try to do just that a month or so back? It got blocked by the rest of the EU, along with France presumably. I can't remember the details, so I could be wide of the mark.

He tried to curb EU migrants. Illegal immigrants were not part of his policy change attempt. Although there have been numerous attempts to curb illegal immigration, by the present and past governments. They just seem to be very good at it. It really doesn't help that too many of our home grown people are lazy gits, and/or set their sights too high without understanding the concept of hard work. You get certain types of jobs that British people often refuse to do, so immigrants, legal and illegal, do it for us, then those same British job dodgers whine about people 'coming over ere and taking our jobs'. It would be a lot harder for immigrants make a living here if employers could get their staff locally and legally.

It says that Britain is an easy touch in comparison to the rest of Europe.
How long can the mass exodus from third world countries go on?
Presumably until we are dragged down to the level of the countries they are coming from, at that point the WEATHER will put them off coming.
I see that another 700 landed at Brindisi yesterday, wonder if they will stay in Italy?

Politician only make noises that they think the population might want to hear, especially when there is an election on the horizon.

Ahh, that's right. He wanted quotas for EU members. We have a number of Poles (from Poland:biggrin:)working at our place. I have to say they have a different work ethic to some where I work. Very nice folks too.

I'd like to say that one reason no government would want to curb immigration is because it keeps wages down, that in turn keeps inflation low.
I think it goes on in other countries.
Its the way the world works now, a kind of 21st century slavery.
