On New Years Day, I lost my VERY much loved 'Black Puss'. She meant everything to me. She was such a loving cat, and I will miss her, and her sister 'Tig' until the day I join them.
She had recently had a recurrent eye infection, which I kept treating, and then developed a wheeze which I dealt with (Bisolvon). Just after Christmas she was looking like a pretty healthy cat, but suddenly whilst she was sleeping by my side on the sofa, she awoke me by having a seizure. She had at least 4 more that day, and I wanted the vet to put her to sleep. She was 18 and 3 months, but I knew there was an underlying reason, and that her days were limited anyway. The vet wanted to try drugs though, and gave her a valium injection too.
She was ok'ish the following day, but on New Years day she started again. I took her into the emergency vet, but we had to wait, and she went into a continuous seizure/(and shock I reckon), whilst in the carrier in the waiting room. IMO the vet took far too long in dealing with her. I got there about 10:15pm and she was gone about 11:30pm .
She suffered so much in those last hours, and I had always said that would never be the case. I wish my vet had let her go when I asked , but we have to trust them.
She visited me in my dreams last night........A healthy looking, loving cat........and she climbed onto my chest like she used to and I made a fuss of her before I woke up.
R.I.P my 'lovely puss'. I love you so much and will miss you till my time comes too. We had such a strong bond.

      Hi

So sorry to hear, but you have to think of the 18 years you had with her and her with you.
I do understand how you must feel and not a good start to 2015 but think of the great times and the loving caring home you gave them both, and you tried your best to the end what more can a owner do , both lucky cats to have you

NG, my heart is with you at this sad time and I can feel your pain and anger. Remember the special moments with Puss ... the bad will ease with time. My Magic Sam (black boy) is 19 years 4 months, deaf and arthritic but still my special boy and I dread the day when he leaves ... but I know he has had a good life with me as your girl has with you.

You did the best you could, shame the professionals let you down.

RIP to your special girl and big hugs to you. xx

                The Rainbow Bridge
                inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

                For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

                .

Thank you everyone :grphg: . You are all so kind. That is lovely @JazzSi , thank you.
I really do hope she is at peace now.
I do believe that people and animals still exist in some form after death. Tig visited me in a dream too, but it was some months after she passed. Black puss helped me to recover from Tig's passing though.
I don't see how an energy can just cease to exist.

It doesn't NG - she will always be with you.

My heart goes out to you, it's a devastating thing to go through, but you were with her to the end and she knew how much you loved her. :grphg:

Sorry to that NG. I've lost a few cats and dogs over the years and know how hard it can hit you.

As far as the vet goes I personally would rather have a vet who is prepared to make an effort than one who suggests the other alternative every time. My vet is excellent and I always trust her judgement.

I agree @longk which is why I went with it. I had to give her that chance, but inside I just knew it was her time. My gripe is with the out of hours vet.
I just donated some stuff to a local charity, and they said it sounds terrible. She should have been assessed on arrival and prioritised. Especially as I kept telling them she was having more in the carrier. I phoned the RSPCA and they agreed, and said report her to the veterinary board (can't remember its proper name). They said arriving at 10:15 with an animal in distress, and leaving at 11:30 is unacceptable. Also they said she should never have given me attitude because her first canula got knocked out by puss. They said it's not my fault. The assistant should have held her other leg.
I will get some advice from my regular vet on Monday. I have cried most of today. I feel I have really let her down.
