Why don't Manufacturers of T/V Control Handsets change their colour code ?.
For as long as I can remember they have been Black, sometimes Metallic Grey.

Why don't they make them in bright Fluorescent colours, ie Yellows,Reds, Greens,Blues?.
These colours are more prominent in darkened room conditions as we have, when watching T/V.
The companies cannot say It's because it's stronger impact on Dark Colours because they contain more Pigments ,Carbon Black etc and they will withstand more abuse and harder to break than lighter Pigmented Colours.
The Plastic used in Genuine Lego is the same grade as the handsets and look at the abuse Lego takes with children, and Lego has a Multitude of Fluorescent colours.

How often have you heard,"Where is the Controller"?,( Not The G C One).:)

"Who Was Last With The Controller"?, (Definitely Not The G C One).:).

Or when your half gassed trying to change channels and you can't see the buttons, the phone rings, and you pick up the T/V control, "HELLO".:).

The days of the telly remote are numbered. Already their are setups where you control your whole media setup (TV and music) through a phone app, and in some cases speech recognition is used. Its still not quite mainstream yet, but it will be in time.

It's not a problem for me anyway, I haven't had a television for four years. :)

Have you noticed how google is thought controlled nowadays? You know the search suggestion autocomplete thingy? Whenever a real obscure random thought pops into my head, I start typing it and it just comes up with what I was thinking as the top suggestion. Its spooky.

Just a Loli thought:rolleyespink: but can you remember the days before 'Hoofer doofers' ? Imagine how many times we'd have to get up out of our chairs to 'turn over' to find something worth watching these days:phew:

I hope they get better at the voice activation stuff before it becomes mainstream - I have an HTC phone which will go into speech recognition mode if you brush against it; I keep it in my shirt pocket, face outwards for this very reason, yet a few weeks ago managed to brush against it with my arm when I was driving...... hearing the faithful 'beep' to tell me that the voice recognition had started, I let out a wee sweary word, only to hear the phones voice say "Dialling Jim...."

The word I said was nothing like Jim, and in fact doesn't even contain one letter the same!

The government and doctors keep worrying about a growing (excuse the pun) obesity problem throughout Europe. Perhaps we could get the EU to ban TV remotes. I suspect that turning the telly over would be the most exercise some people would get, but it must be better than nothing.

With boiler replacement on the cards for me at the moment it's regulation for a new one to have a thermostat. At the moment I control mine either by adjusting the boiler or the stats on the radiators. My 'man that does' says the new boiler will have a wireless thermostat like a remote control. I'd not heard of that until now, technology certainly moves fast! :)

My son has a Hive so he can control his heating from his phone, the idea is he can switch it on from the office so it's warm when he gets home. I'm not totally convinced it's money well spent, we get good results using a modern programmer.

Don't understand the problem about the remote . It's always in the same place - problem solved. There's only one control (actually there are two but the other one is the hi-tech one that hasn't been taken out of its bag) and phones stay on their bases.

Our TV also has voice control (not activated) and hand motion control (definitely not activated).

                          Some hi-tech is useful.
If I want to answer my phone I get up and do so. It has caller display, on a very clear screen, so I can see if I want to talk to them.

If they're not in my directory it, obviously, won't display the caller's name.

Instead, their call gets intercepted, by the phone, without audibly ringing and the phone asks who's calling. If the caller doesn't announce who they are the phone won't put them through. If they announce who they are the phone then rings, tells me who is calling (repeats their voice message) and asks what I want to do with the call. I can, accept, reject, or send it to answerphone (there are other options). After the call I get the option to bar the caller in future, let them through every time or put them in the directory (other options).

The phone works perfectly and it does just what I wanted it to do. So I'm not totally anti-tech. I'm just not in favour of having tech doing things for me that I don't really want. If I'm out I don't want to be bothered with my emails or other internet facilities - I'm out! My mobile, yes I do have one, is for emergencies or for Mrs Shiney to tell me what extra shopping she wants me to get. :heehee: I can just remember how to turn it on! I don't think it had more than three calls (in and out) last year and had one text.

I accept that people now need modern communications for work but, otherwise, they're just an added cost that is for convenience.
