    Hello Woo. For flower power and good leaves, if you have a shallow shelf in the pond, the following should do well in baskets lined with hessian or geotextile or shade netting, then filled with garden soil:
    Lobelia cardinalis, Zantedeschia aethiopicum, Houttuynia 'Chamaeleon', Iris ensata.
    A lot of the 'marginal' plants sold in garden centres are very invasive...Pontederia, Oenanthe, Caltha to name just three!
    For plants to create a nice effect around the pond, but growing in ordinary dryish soil, Polystichum ferns, Ligularia, Rodgersia, and any evergreen foliage plants....
    This is my former pond in Northants...it looked reasonable even in winter. (Yes, really, there is a pond in there somewhere:heehee:) Hope this will help a bit! photos 398-1.jpg

          In my pond I have;

          Cyperus alternifolius............
          [IMG]

          And Iris pseudacorus..................
          [IMG]

          I layed some matting over the edge and into a surrounding area of the bed which allows water to moisten that area by capillary action. In this area I have;
          Solanum laciniatum..............
          [IMG]

          [IMG]

          And this year I'll add Sesbania puniceus..............

              Not in the UK where it is slightly tender. It has survived this winter ok so far. I have just started my last seed off and I need two more - if three or more germinate one will have your name on it.

                      No, but they grow best in moist conditions.

                      I had forgotten all about Dierama Spruce!

                          Himalayan poppies like to have their feet damp don't know they? How about hostas or heucheras instead if you prefer year round foliage interest. There are so many colours of heuchera available these days.
