Yes, of course I would ... I'm not oblivious to how our dairy farmers are being shafted by the supermarkets. Daylight robbery in my book.

It's not as simple as that unfortunately, Jiffy. The Retailers, i.e: The Supermarkets are squeezing the wholesale price down but still retaining their own mark up margin of profitability.
They're also, like other Big Companies, notorious late payers of bills owed to Suppliers [a] Because they can and Because it puts the Farmers under pressure and more vulnerable, [c] the contracts they enter into with the Farmers are designed to keep the foot of the Buyer on the neck of the Seller.
So if we were willing to pay more for our milk, [which I am], then there would have to be a cast iron guarantee that the actual increase in price went to the Farmers and was not retained in whole, or part, by the Supermarkets. There should also be a Government review on the way contracts and payments are made to Farmers and possibly an Authority to ensure the contracts are fair and the payments are paid on time as stated by the contracts. You often find that the Big Companies although having an agreement to pay the Suppliers within 30 days or even 90 days don't keep to that agreement, or if they do then they only part pay the sum involved with a delay on the rest which places the Supplier into monetary problems.:dunno::coffee:

I'd be quite willing to pay more. Seems to me the farmers are getting a poor deal. No doubt though that any price increase would be pocketed by the supermarkets

I already pay more than the going rate as I buy organic (for the cow's welfare, not mine). I also will only buy free range eggs which are also more expensive. I've seen examples of intensive milk farming in the US and if that was the only option here, I would not buy another pint again.

Now what makes you think that paying a extra premium to the Supermarket for "organic" milk ensures that that premium will go back to the Farmer "for the cow's welfare", Yvonne???:dunno::scratch:

I would willingly pay more Jiffy. I hate to see a modern hybrid cow with grotesquely oversized udders and deformed hips. What a sad life they have - from machine to food trough and back to the milking machine,

                      I'm definitely not Val!!

But to answer your question, I watched a documentary some time ago now where they compared standard milk to organic milk. One of the measures was the amount of acceptable levels of puss in the milk (from the cows suffering Mastitis). It was much lower in organic milk so to me, that meant this condition was more closely managed in the organic herd. I hope this is true?

Have you given any thought to keeping your own chooks on the allotment?

I would love to M, but not until another member on the allotment can buddy up with me, so on the days I can't make it to feed & water them, I have a back up plan. I would obviously return the favour to the other person. It may happen in the future, as slowly, the very neglected site is starting to improve. fingers crossed

Well, that's definitely my deliberate mistake of the Night.........sorry, Yvonne:runforhills:
........I'll cut down on Ziggy's homemade firewater!! My apologies, Yvonne:cry3::love30:, and I have amended the mistake!!

Still, there is the question of why you have faith that the Farmer will receive the premium that you pay for organic goods and that the Supermarkets don't "cream" it off for themselves??.:dunno::scratch:
