What's Buzzing or Flying near you today... 2015

    Can't beat that, even with your compact you have a fantastic shot.:dbgrtmb::dbgrtmb:

    This afternoon at Upton CP.
    There were about 40+ Redwings were in the fields but distant.

    This Buzzard was watching the Redwings but eventually flew over our heads and landed in a tree ahead of us.

    When we got under it, it gave some close ups of the markings not normally seen.

    Tide was out in the bay.

        We had some long tailed tits today along with the usual crowd Woodpecker pops in most days.
        We had a hen pheasant the other day she had a poorly leg we called her Shirley as one of our friends by the same name has a bad leg.

          I've just entered all the details on our garden bird watch. Apart from all the feeders I had sprinkled loads of birdseed on the ground, which I don't usually do. Yesterday turned out to be a beautifully sunny day so it seemed to bring out the birds.

          4 male and 7 female pheasants
          3 crows
          4 wood pigeons
          5 collared doves
          3 great spotted woodpeckers
          1 green woodpecker
          6 blackbirds
          2 song thrushes
          7 blue tits
          3 great tits
          2 coal tits
          4 long tailed tits
          5 robins (usually six regulars)
          2 wrens
          20+ greenfinches (they congregate in the willow tree and I gave up trying to count them)
          2 goldfinches
          8 starlings (they only come for the fat cakes)
          3 magpies
          1 tree sparrow
          6 house sparrows
          5 dunnocks
          7 chaffinches
          2 bullfinches
          2 Jays
          1 fieldfare (thanks to you good people on here identifying it for me)

          Now you know why they get through 20-30kg of seed, lots of fat cakes and 2kg of peanuts every six weeks! :)

              Hi All,

              I was reading, Goss hawks on the increase across the UK that it is having a knock on effect as in killing other species in its territory especially when nesting ie Barn Owls (feeding during the day), Kestrels & buzzards usually chicks on the nest, as I know they can take down Ravens easily.

              We often think is us with habitat destruction but with stricter wildlife laws and less shooting by gamekeepers and the like ... more are breeding.

                Yes (it was just 50 minutes as I had to go out) but they're all quite common birds.

                Apart from the thrushes, fieldfare, Jays, long tailed tits and gold finches the birds are in the garden most of the time.

                The greenfinches are in the tall trees a lot of the day, the pheasants are in the garden almost all day (quite often have them squawking out of the bushes and shrubs when we walk past), the robins are around all the time, the wrens seem to spend most of their day in the hanging baskets and on the buddleia, the blue tits and great tits spend a lot of time on the buddleia, the doves sit on the roof of the summerhouse and the pigeons sit on the house roof (had to have the TV aerial turned round because they sat on it and pooped on the solar panels), the magpies would spend more time in the garden but the doves chase them away and the woodpeckers live in the poplar trees at the bottom of the garden.

                        Increasing but still uncommon and very localised. A large number live in forest and areas not populated by Barn Owls and they mainly take Pigeons and Rabbits. Fortunately Barn Owls are increasing too with the help of nesting boxes.
                        Unfortunately, some of our more uncommon birds increasing in numbers (Raven) predate other uncommon birds (Puffins/Razorbills).
