    Same as for squirrels.

Woo, they better not get too close. I allow only two squirrels at a time into Shineyland!

Sheal, according to what I have read the black are a melanistic sub group of the American grey squirrel but they lack a piece of DNA in the melanin gene. Otherwise they're the same. Whereas the red squirrel is a different species of squirrel indigenous to Britain and, therefore, protected.

              No offence taken, Woo :).

I don't like shooting them but, in the past, they have done enormous damage to our garden. Apart from having to sort out the problems caused it has cost us many hundreds of pound in destroyed plants and damaged equipment.

Even the rats (field rats) are left alone if they don't cause problems. In the past they have also done considerable damage - eaten dog sized holes in the walls and floors of my sheds (had to scrap two wooden sheds and now have one metal shed) and gotten into the loft and destroyed things up there.

Oscar cleared out all the rats and they haven't returned since he's been gone (fingers crossed).

There are Black Squirrels at Kent, State University campus, Kent, Ohio, USA Many years ago, like 60 they captured several pairs from Canada and let them lose to mate on their campus. So now that is what you see running the trees.
