        The original three wise monkeys are still in existence. The carvings date back from the early 1600's to the 1800's and are a wooden carving at the Toshogu Shrine in Japan.

        A brass monkey was a brass plate, with indentations, made for holding cannonballs. It wasn't used on ships, although the myth says it was, but was used on land and was triangular.

        tthe myth goes that when the weather got really cold the metal of the cannonballs would contract and they would fall off the brass monkey. Hence, freezing the balls of a brass monkey. It never happened :snork:.

        Cannonballs on warships were held in holes cut in planks of wood (I remember it well :old:).

          Another cold day here, currently just above freezing but most of the snow has gone :hapydancsmil: let's hope that's the last of it!?? veggie plot looks very wet...doesn't look like I'm going to get on there for a while.
          My hens are out in the garden, yesterday they came out if their coops, had their breakfast & went back to bed! they don't like the snow.
          I hope everyone is ok, hope you all have a lovely day :)
