Not by a lot, but a step in the right direction.

Nice to see the North West supplier ( United Utilities ) is reducing by a whole 1% ! We moved to this house about 10 years ago , and had a water meter fitted . This reduced the cost from approx. £34 to £20 a month - quite a saving . Well the price in 10 years has virtually doubled so we pay £470 a year , not a clue what it would be if we weren't on a meter . As you have no option to change supplier , there is no incentive to control the prices.

That's outrageous! I thought they've got so much of the stuff in Wales that they should be paying people for helping to get rid of it (Based on previous experience of holidays in Wales).

Can you get a water meter fitted @Val.. ? Our bill halved when we did that, we pay £336 on the meter and get through quite a lot of water, 3 of us at home for showers, plus washing machine and dishwasher the main culprits - plus I do use a hose a fair bit in the summer.

Yes, I am thinking I may do that, I have 2 large aquariums which I do water changes on once a week. also washing machine but it would still probably be well worth it.

Now we have a big price difference . So a metre supply in Surrey is £336 . A similar household in the NW , two people similar usage , washing machine - showers - hose pipe and its £470 nearly +50% . Why the big differences , as this example and the table above ?

Harry just a further bit of information for comparison, I looked at our last bill from Thames Water, they estimate we currently use 123 cubic metres of water a year. (The previous year we only used 111 cu metres at a cost of £300).

Have you got a useage figure you can easily find?

I live in the north west Harry and am on a meter with United Utilities. My water bill hasn't moved much in ten years - has probably gone up a few quid to around £23. I am a one person household but I do use a lot of water on the garden in the summer. I wonder if there could be something wrong with your meter?

                      Thanks Merle , Jon
for the comparison , my Mother in law pays about £23 . My friend at work who is not on a meter pays £800 a year !

Jon I have got my usage and charges from United Utilities ( NorthWest )
Water usage = 100 cubic metres per year
Cost per cu metre is = £3 ( water in + waste water charge )
Standing charge per year= £55 ( water in + waste water charge )
Surface water drainage charge = £79 ( not noticed this one before ! )

                      Sum = 100x3 +55 +79 = £434 = £36 a month

So it looks like my usage and sum is about correct . Wonder how the North west charges above compare with other areas ?

Erm ... finding this all a bit confusing to be honest

Am I the only one who has two different water bills? Or, are you only speaking about the metered water? :noidea:

My (combined) Direct Debits amount to just under £53 per month (with the metered water element being £21 of that) :th scifD36:
