Poundland have a big delivery of Hellibores and they are in very good condition. Around 8" tall and in bud, I have seen virtually the same in a well known garden centre retailing at £7.99 each. I've bought 6. I may go back for more!

And the new ones that I did buy at the garden centre prices have been munched by rabbits

That's tragic! I'm surprised they didn't get sick eating them.

My local Poundland has second rate ones that haven't been watered, but I picked up an excellent one from a different store. It's inside on my kitchen windowsill and just coming into flower. Excellent value if you can get in before they wilt n die.

Don't forget to collect the seed. I always sow them fresh on the surface of a seed tray and cover with grit. Then just forget about them till spring by which point you will have some lovely seedlings

It's so sad to watch plants in shops die through lack of care. Aldi is a major offender - I asked if I could purchase soon poorly leftovers, they said they couldn't sell them. I asked if I could give them a charitable donation - the answer was still no, so they all went in the bin :wallbanging:

Not in our Poundland they weren't! Daffodils and Heathers, but no Hellebores

Finally got around to popping into Poundland (on Friday), they had a few left, looking a bit sorry for themselves, I bought these four as they look salvageable. All the other plants there were dry and leggy.

I think I may have happened across mine just as they were delivered as they were in absolutely perfect condition x

Have you got a Leclerc somewhere near you, Eve? They have some reasonable plants at the moment, although the range is limited to evergreen shrubs, lavenders, roses, rockery plants, bedding plants and soft fruit. Just occasionally there'll be a real bargain like Nandina domestica for €1.99. The other good buys are in Lidl from time to time.
What frustrates me is that gardening is so very seasonal here....a flurry of garden-related stuff in March and April and then that's it for the year!
