Hi there all. My garden is a bit of a labour of love in that I bought my dad's house after he died. It is not a low maintenance garden! I learn loads from sites like this one and Youtube etc and would like to contribute when I get something worth giving back. My garden in video and photo format is on my Facebook page so please forgive a link. Any feed-back or comments very very welcome.

A very interesting garden, Paul. Your Dad obviously liked his plants. You obviously have plans for the garden, [polytunnel, dahlia bed, etc. I think one of the problems you will have is trying to do too much too soon. Presumably you are there to stay so I would focus on one area at a time to get things right. That's a nice seat by the fence and perhaps a Arbour around it and some flags to stop wear of the ground by the feet of people sitting there might soften things.:dunno::snork: Oh, and Welcome to Gardeners Corner!!!:love30::thumbsup::snork:

Welcome to GC Paul. :) Lovely to see the video of your garden. I agree with Armandii, when you take on a garden that needs extra work it's best to concentrate on one area at a time, it's less daunting. The soil looks as if it's in good condition so that's one task you won't need to battle with.

Please could you put your area in your avatar box, it gives us an idea of your gardening and climate conditions when answering any questions you may have. I suspect you're in Southern England by the sound of the Ringneck Parrakeet on your video.....just guessing and you'll probably tell me now I'm completely wrong! :heehee:

Thanks so much or the feedback and welcome Armandii. Yep, too much too soon that's my motto. August will be the acid test. My barbecue deadline. Slabs / paving in front of the bench - absolutely appreciated. I have been seeding, reseeding, over seeding that grass patch in front of the bench. The paving / slate idea is going to save a lot of time in the coming season. Thanks for that, I really appreciate it :)

Nope Sheal. Spot on. I am in Croydon, South london. This was my second real year at the garden and a huge amount of leaves and shreddings have been rotovated into the soil. The way my Dad had it there was a lot of soil build up so the quality of the ground is good. But still sticky clay based.

All eyes are on this summer 2015. I want relatives and friends to say "Ooohh look at that, just like his Dad used to do it" Haha. But a bit better :)

I'm Essex reared and it's a very long time since I was in the Croydon area. The bird I recognised immediately, my mum used to breed parakeets. :)

It sounds like your dad has done the hard work on the soil for you, a bonus! I've gardened on clay and now on sand, I don't know which is worse to be honest.

How funtastic - you were able to give us a video tour of your garden :yay: :hapydancsmil: :yay:
You've worked hard on clearing so much of it and it has already been well landscaped (and clearly loved). You are going to have such fun with it!

As already said above, take it section by section and, gradually, it will all fall into place. Gardening is an evolving journey and definitely *not* a destination ;)
