      I had a look around on the web and apart from two reviews couldn't find any unbiased opinions on the Gardencare mower. There is no review from 'Which' magazine.

      The reviews stated some buckling in the body that restricted blade rotation. Heavy on oil consumption. Grass collection box fiddly to manoeuvre. One of the reviews also suggested it needed the three speed adjustment as the lowest adjustment was to slow. All the other reviews were by retailers and of course there wasn't a fault amongst them.

      Jenny......I wouldn't make a decision on retailers comments, they are there to sell. I'd be inclined to go with gardeners comments as here on GC and it seems that none of us have heard of this make of mower. It could be that it's new to the market and reviews are yet to appear from gardeners. It's a bit of a 'minefield' and unfortunately it's you that has to make the final decision.

        I have the Honda Izzy exactly the same as the one in the link I posted above . It is five years old now and has been absolutely faultless and gives a brilliant cut.

        It's very light for a machine of this type. It's been put together using quality components right down to super quality roller bearings on the wheels !

        It starts first time every time and adjusting height of cut is very easy ! The grass collector is easy to get on and off.

              Even if this is an oldish topic, I'd like to add a reply.

              The first mower I had when I moved in this house was a Hayter Hunter 46. That lasted exactly 10 seasons until repairs became uneconomic. When a replacement blade cost roughly £45 here at the time, that comment may not apply to the UK! The biggest problem with it was really the drive. I found it very poor, and not as good as I would have expected.

              That was replaced 15 years ago by a Yardman 6521C. Though heavier than the Hayter, the drive is far better. Front castors make steering it easier, despite the extra weight. It also uses less fuel than the Hayter, even if the engine is more powerful. Its still running, and the only unusual repair was to weld up a small hole in the steel chassis.

              When time allows, its going to be joined by a 1950's(?) Webb Rotary with Trailing Seat. When I get time to restore it, that is!

              I have a Fiskars staysharp push mower which is no good on anything other than flat lawns, a toro multiclip which is the most temperamental mower i have ever owned and a stiga recycler which was a second hand purchase and is absolutely fantastic and after 2 years of mulching with it my lawn looks the best it ever has. Stiga mulcher for me

              Battery mowers are moving quite fast now and if you can afford the best you can use them commercially as one model I know runs for 2 hours on a charge but it's the cost of the unit, batteries and charger that are a sticky point.
              A few more years down the line then price point will hopefully make them a viable option.

              Grew up mowing our lawn with an electric and now I do my own with a Honda petrol mower.

              No comparison. Petrol wins hands down except for the initial price.

              * No extension leads. Saves so much time just going all out and not having to worry about cables being in the way or too short.
              * More powerful.
              * Quicker to clean, get ready and store again.
