@Sheal @LyndaG Thanks Sheal, we've been working with Carrie on this problem for a year. She's using some photos of our garden in a feature she's doing.

We lost something over 4,000 Aquilegias!

Sorry I haven't responded before now but we've only just returned from the hinterland of Turkey (Cappadocia) and have been out of communication for a week.

How sad she must be heartbroken, I just hope that some she grows are more resilient.

I hadn't realised the amount that you've lost @shiney. Have you replaced them?

We've sprinkled seed around the garden and some self-seeded ones have started appearing. None of them are special ones (no more than all of our plants being special to us).

Mrs Shiney has also sown some named seeds that she's had lying around for years.

I haven't been here for a long time but today I realised that nearly every single one of my Aquilegias is showing signs of this new mildew. Do I just have to write them off, dig them up? Will it spread to other plants? I love them....29 here at today's count plus seedlings galore. So fed up. Any thoughts please...especially encouraging ones!

              Hi
From what I have read nothing , but I would try a rose fungicide nothing to lose.

I'm afraid that I can't give you too much encouragement. It's too early for there to have been any remedy for the problem.

On the up side, although we lost over 4,000 of them we still have some surviving. With a bit of luck they will continue to survive and be able to produce seed that is resistant. We lost all of the seedlings we were bring on in the greenhouse - which could have been something totally unrelated.

I haven't examined the plants in the garden (a little too early in the season to tell) but, from what I've observed when gardening, we seem to have about a hundred or so fairly healthy looking plants, a few that appear to be struggling to leaf up (could be just that's it too early for them) and a very few that appear to have the mildew. We're not doing anything about the mildewed ones at the moment to see whether they recover. If they're near healthy ones I might lift them, pot them up and see how they go.
