I found the young Spoonbill fishing on it's own yesterday, it was trying to eat a Flounder (?) but after a full five minutes it gave up as it was just too wide to swallow.

Thanks Beckie, I think I had better stop before you all get Spoonbill fatigue!:rolleyespink:
It's a fascinating bird to watch so I can't help taking pics (and Poole harbour is so full of thousands of winter birds), the last two aren't very sharp as they were grabs from video.

:hapydancsmil:Id never get Spoonbill fatigue! You can post as many photos of them as you wish! I love looking at wildlife photos, especially birds. When I retire I shall spend my time walking around wildlife reserves, we are near Lackford Lakes which is fantastic for watching bird life, I've not had time to go recently & I'm told it's changed at lot, but I love sitting in the hides looking out & listening to the bird song :hapydancsmil:

That looks a good 'un Woo. How many miles all round?
Hope the weather's kind for you. Can the dogs do the whole walk as well or will you have a back pack for them to sit in -if it gets too much?

The 230 hectares of Cliffe Pools are a mix of saline lagoons, freshwater pools, grassland, saltmarsh and scrub. These habitats have developed on old clay diggings and river dredgings. The reserve attracts thousands of birds. It is renowned as a site for wading birds, with massed flocks moving from the Thames Estuary onto the pools on winter high tides, a wide range of passage birds in autumn and spring, and breeding avocets, redshanks, lapwings and ringed plovers.

Great crested grebes, shelducks, and little egrets are all resident and are joined by large flocks of pochards, tufted ducks, shovelers, teals and other ducks in winter. In spring and summer look out for hobbies, nightingales and turtle doves.

Cliffe Pools are also home to a range of other wildlife including water voles and harvest mice plus notable insects, such as the scarce emerald damselfly, shrill carder bee and green hairstreak butterfly. Plant species include nationally notable species, such as sea barley and annual beard grass.
