That is very unusual behaviour and would have nothing to do with the lack of human care at all.

If people start flapping and running that could panic a bee. A bee will only sting as a last resort as they die after stinging you.

Im not saying it was my neighbours fault at all he couldn't even access the hives because they were so overgrown. I am aware its very odd behaviour but they were coming from the unused hives.

None of us flapped about as we know that would be stupid. I just started walking back and keeping my head ducked a bit lower and then picked up pace when it kept flying into my head.

we were being attacked each time and they didn't stop until they stung.

trust me first we thought it was a fluke but when it was happening daily then its less of a fluke

my parents had another incident this summer a big swarm of bees appeared on the ground on the drive and stayed there over night. they then swarmed off and my mum thought they were gone until they started coming down the chimney into the garden room and dying. mum was clearing up bees for over a week. there were so many of them. was a nightmare with 3 cats and two labradors. you couldn't walk in the room the floor was just covered and it would be covered again minutes after vacuuming them up

apparently a neighbour who does keep bees had bought a new colony and it apparently abandoned the hive but the guy was away at the time apparently
