    There was around a dozen in my neighbours tree yesterday, they had a beautiful song, were small, perhaps around sparrow size and had red faces - then in a second they were gone. Very rushed photo and camera was on max zoom as they were pretty high up, hence poor quality photo ( I can do better I promise!) I just wondered what they were. image.jpg

        You have some beautiful Goldfinches in your neighbours tree and they look like they are feeding on the seeds that the tree has produced:smile:

          My Mum phoned me up about one once, she thought it was an escaped pet bird till she described it to me :doh: Bless her :biggrin:

            Thank you folks - I was amazed to see them - since I gave up work I have noticed how many beautiful birds there are - for years I thought we only had Sparrows and Pigeons. There are so many incredible and beautiful other varieties and I really enjoy them now x

              They love Niger seed :dbgrtmb: and if you grow Evening Primrose they will be eating those seeds as well

                My year of "nature's enlightenment" came when I moved into my previous house and we had bats :wub2: as well as new-to-me birds (woodpeckers, fieldfares, treecreepers, bullfinches etc)

                I miss the bats since I've moved here ... but ... instead, I get ..... OWLS!!! :wub2::wub2::wub2:

                  I usually get loads of goldfinches here. I get more of them than any other bird but I haven't seen any for a while. It's puzzling but I hope they come back! I'd really love to see owls in my garden though. Somehow I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. :snork:

                        Don't worry, they're all having a short vacation in Medway in the all-you-can-eat buffet. They'll be home soon x x

                          Morning M, I consider my "natures enlightenment" one of the best ever things that happened to me - do you feel like that? It's fabulous and I enjoy it every day x

                            Yes, I do. And the older I get, the greater appreciation I have of it too.
                            When I was younger my energies went into propagating humans so now I'm able to fully appreciate so much more that I didn't really have time (or energy or even inclination) for earlier.
