Holiday help needed please (UK)

Hi gang
I was going to go abroad this year, but I really like the UK to be honest, so I may do a week of travelling here. I am thinking of heading towards the cotswolds, and then up through Wales to Snowdon, across the north coast and then up towards the lake district before heading home.
I am looking for some amazing places en route, and this is where you guys come in hopefully. I really like places with history......especially Churches, Abbeys, and castles (ruins are fine), or just nice places worth checking out (views for example). I would rather steer clear of cities/large towns, but would consider them if worth it.
If anyone can suggest anywhere worth a look, please add it below .

If you were to go that bit further North (you won't need a passport) there's Fountains Abbey,Rievaulx Abbey,both ruins but fabulous places with stunning views and don't forget the Yorkshire Dales

Although it's a city, Chester is bang on your route, with city walls to walk round, the rows medieval raised shops etc etc but then I'm biased, I spent my first years there and will always love it. And I can't stand urban areas lol

When are you thinking of going? The Lake District is nice but in the summer it just becomes one big traffic jam. I would be tempted to head to the Peak District instead after Chester. The natives are lovely peeps and you can get proper Bakewell Tart.

A couple of nurseries on or near your route are Cotswold Garden Flowers near Evesham and Crug Farm up in North Wales.

Surely that's Bakewell Pudding, for the original, authentic.......?

If you visit Bodnant Garden http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/bodnant-garden/ at the end of May the Laburnum arch http://www.walesonline.co.uk/special-features/see-laburnum-arch-bodnant-garden-7056176 is likely to be in full bloom.



If continuing to the Lake District it would be the time when the Rhododendrons and Azaleas are in flower (and Foxgloves).

 

head down to St Davids West Wales Pembroke

 

St David's is good as it is the smallest City in the UK.Warwick Castle is also a must as is Caernarfon Castle and Castleton in the Peak District is also a nice place to visit as is the Lake District.I think you are going to need at least a month to fit in all the suggestions but sure that you are going to enjoy the UK better than abroad and it is going to help our economy and as they say every little helps.

 

In all fairness when I was in Oz the Japanese could do "all" of Oz in two weeks! Off the bus, take photo and back on the bus - it really was quite funny

 

There's a free to visit Laburnum arch at Llandudno, surprised you missed that one Scrunge

 

I've only visited Llandudno in February!
