I know that this may not be a popular opinion, but I think it is high time that we paid our local councils and even the government as a whole the respect they deserve, and congratulate them.

I for one would like to congratulate Surrey County Council - the consistency of their approach is impeccable.

Only last week, I reported (online) a couple of potholes, and by Friday I got a couple of emails back telling me that they had been repaired. One of them, at the top of my road. I took a couple of photos of the repair on Monday, which I shall post here to demonstrate the attention to detail and standard of craftsmanship involved:

Above you can see the markings that were made to guide the repair team in - presumably like homing missiles on a target.

And here, you can see a closer view of the repair that they achieved:

Now, we must bear in mind that this was repaired on Friday, and the image above was taken on Monday, so we have to factor in the considerable wear that will have taken place since the repair was done.

Therefore, I am sure you will join me in congratulating Surrey County Council, and the UK government as a whole, for continuing to rape my bank balance and so consistently frittering it away.

After a lot of moaning amongst ourselves, a neighbour took on the job of contacting the County Council to complain about the 20 or so potholes in our street. Eventually 2 trucks, laden with materials andctowing plant turned up with a crew of 4 workers and we thought that they were finally going to sort them out.

They took half a day to fix the pothole outside the house person who complained then drove off, and some 6 months later have never returned .

Our council employ private contractors, they are very quick, they locate water filled pothole , drop in shovel full of tarmac , hit with back of shovel, drive off, total time taken 1 minute.

              Contd. from post #4 .......

The County Council came back a few weeks ago whilst we were out shopping for a couple of hours with less operatives, 'finished' the entire street in record time and were leaving as we returned. I'm going to ask them to let me know when they return to complete the works so I can invite 'Rogue Traders' to come and film them in action:

              1) They laid the tarmac on top of debris in the gutter, mud started squirting through this patch after the first vehicle drove over it.
              2) Edge of patch showing they couldn't be bothered to scrape out the gutter, let alone cut out the defective surfacing.
              3) I think this one speaks for itself!
              4) Junction between 'reinstatement' and remainder of pothole, I guess the got fed up filling it before even half way along it.

They ignored about 60% of the potholes, here's a small selection:

No potholes here!! It used to be dreadful in Surrey where I used to live, the roads were always breaking up. Also a week ago my wheelie bin broke, I telephoned the Council, and the very next day my broken one was taken away and replaced with a shiny brand new one!!
