Since I was little, the Camellia has been one of my favourite flowers. I have early memories of seeing them in dark, dull gardens in Winter making such an incredible statement of colour and their shiny leaves always fascinated me - and still do.
I thought I would show you a couple of mine and I do hope you will add yours to this thread,
    Jenny

This is Camellia Magnoliiflora , a variety of over 200 years and a strong but compact grower. Shame that these early blooms have frost damage but there are loads of buds to come over the next month or so:

And this is St Ewe. She has flowered before Christmas before now but not this year,

and this white one, already in the garden when we moved in 5 years ago must have been is a healthy, robust grower that I have to prune so that we can walk down the path. The leaf is more of a light green. I hope the weather will spare her large blooms otherwise they look like brown paper bags as they do not drop and I feel obliged to remove them and there can be quite a lot of them: P1050805.JPG

      Hiya Jenny :)
There's one in the garden that's full of buds. When it flowers, I'll post a pic :blue thumb:

I just have 2 camellias but they're not in bloom yet. Some nice fat buds on one of them though so hopefully won't be long. Yours are lovely Jenny

Lovely specimens, Jenny (particularly like the first one, Camellia Magnoliiflora :blue thumb: )
Camellia is on my "Wish List".
              NCFCcrazy - that's a pretty colour :)

I've got a number of Camellias and all except one have nice fat buds on. I have one bloom so far (on 'Debutante') but it's frost damaged so will take pics when I have some pretty ones.

Top one is looking glorious, Jenny

How will you treat the mould problem on the second one?

The "book" says you can wash off each leaf individually ( I cannot reach them all ) or use Provado as a treatment spray. It's an on going problem that returns regularly but it doesn't seem to debilitate the shrub itself. I make sure it doesn't run dry in Summer and it has B,F & B in Spring and a Camellia feed in July when the new flower buds start to develop,

I may be teaching you to suck eggs, but ensure they are against a west facing wall or fence to protect frosted blooms against the early morning sun.

Yep front garden is west facing so it's a perfect plant.

By rights I shouldn't have a thriving, glossy plant with loads of buds and flowers as it is planted in totally the wrong place. It's in an exposed area down by the river and gets sun from every direction but it seems happy there, along with another camellia, a rhododendron and some azaleas.
