All I can think is lack of light really Wiseowl - as you well know the main trouble is at this time of year it's very gloomy even in a greenhouse. Perhaps it's the shock of leaving a cosy indoor room and going onto the greenhouse, have you any heating in there? (they don't need to be treated with kid-gloves but might object to frosts).

15 Kelsae onions potted up into 60mm square pots, about to do the same with 9 Ailsae plants. Seeds sown 1st Jan, 7 weeks ago.

All that wire might look a bit messy/excessive but I'm now getting so many plants under lights that they are having to go in shifts and all that moving around is likely to cause some damage, especially with my dodgy eyesight where I have to keep changing spectacles depending whether I want stuff to be in focus at 300mm or 6oomm.

It's difficult. Too much heat should also be avoided. Try to keep them on the dry side WOO, but don't let them dry out :blue thumb:

              Looking good Scrungee:dbgrtmb:

Mine are in the GH now ,keeping them at around 13 degrees on my heated bench overnight and trying to find the sunniest spot in there during the day.I can't keep them under my light as it's too warm in my grow tent .There's no heat in there and the light doesn't seem to throw off that much heat but the temperature is 21 degrees. It is in the house though.

My lights are in an unheated room in the house that's around 14C and an extract fan comes on when the lights are on. The Mylar lined front panels are removed when the lights are off.

I have a similar setup to Scrungee, my onions are under growlamps in an unheated room. It gets down to 11C some nights. The onions are in a propagator that comes on overnight keeping them at 15/16C. When the lamps are on during the day it's getting up to 21C, that's maybe too hot for onions but I've got other things under them as well. It's not ideal, more of a compromise.

I don't know why I haven't already rigged up my spare light in the GH:doh:I'll do that tomorrow:blue thumb:
It is a bit of a juggling job trying give all the plants the right conditions.:rolleyespink:

As I said, it's difficult, in terms of practicality. From memory, when I grew mine, I kept them in the greenhouse, heat at night in the propagator, then lights turned on during the day with the propagator uncovered. It's a real balancing act...at least, I found it so.

Onions potted up on Friday, post #87 (210mm from soil level to leaf tip), are now up to 250mm high, so they haven't stalled. I must stop doing this or @JWK will report me for Obsessive Gardening
