    Is gardening an art form?

Obviously this would normally exclude vegetable growing, although my uncle many years ago had an allotment that was a work of art and a kaleidoscope of colour. (I didn't follow in his footsteps; it's more time efficient to buy veggies in Aldi, pesticides and all)

Topiary buffs would think it's an art form, I presume. But in general??

Good morning Lifeflower and welcome ,yes it is artform the only difference is that we exchange paint brushes for garden tools,we chose the colours of the flowers and the design to create the subject matter,

I see gardening as a means of expression, which is what art is really. Instead of looking at a painting you walk into it and see it from different angles, smells, sounds etc.

        I would say yes.
It's easy to plonk a few plants here and there. And think it looks nice.

But to have a truly fantastic garden one has to apply ones mind and try see how differnt plants grouped together will give a different effect.

To me it is: It is like decorating a room, the right colors together, textures, heights, etc. Then I invite folks to enjoy my room--which are the butterflies, bees and birds. Items that play off /complement each other is my goal. The planning is that something of interest is continually in my rooms, as a light bulb is always turned on or music is always playing. And each room needs to have that whimsical item, a surprise.

I'll say:thumbsup:...we're all striving for that lovely 'picture' and looking at GC'ers gardens I think we've got it off to a fine art:dbgrtmb:we all like a variety of planting ideas and even if they don't always appeal to everyone you can't get away from the fact that the time and effort gone into it creating our 'masterpieces' certainly pays off:dbgrtmb:

Yes it is @lifeflower and it's the only one I'm anyway half decent at.
