I trimmed back last year's young shrubby Salvias that have over wintered in the mini Green house. I trimmed them quite hard as there is a lot of strong growth at the base and I want them to grow bushy this year,
    :fingers crossed:

Planted some British bluebells in the front garden. Sprayed all my roses with anti-fungal spray, in an attempt to prevent black-spot before it starts. They're just starting to bud up, and I've found this is a good time to start spraying. I even put out some slug-pellets, hoping to counter the slug problem before it becomes one.
I have had to put my latest plant order on hold, as we're away towards Easter. The only way I can guarantee it will be delivered when we're not away is to postpone it until April. Gutted, as I was looking forward to some fancy plantings with ornamental grasses, but it will give me something to look forward to when I get back.

I got bogged down with the monthly shop, the Ozzy walk (heavenly bird song!), the shove-the-shopping-into-every-space race.

On the garden front: I did purchase a divine pot "trolley" (you know, one of those things on castors where you pop your pot on top and it makes moving pots easier? :noidea: Oh yes! NOT!)
With assistance, HUGE, terracotta pot was carefully lifted (my side, anyway :rolleyespink: ) onto said castor-moving-heaven. Other half (metaphorically speaking) gave way and splatted over the patio
Ho hum: have not pot available to transplant it to, so it will either do or die until I can find one :wallbanging: :fingers crossed:

Nothing done IN the garden today but I did:

Sign the contract and pay for our new allotment
Manage to get a garden table and chairs for it from freecycle

Not bad considering I was on call today and it was chaotically busy! Looking forward to getting stuck in over the weekend!

So - something which will mean hard work and something for relaxing after. Perfect :spinning:

Pricking out and potting on in the GH,planting up my strawberry plants while I get my guttering rigged up to plant them in and I must sort my Arch out,a job that's been going to be done for a year or so,it's on the verge of collapse:doh: it's covered in Clematis 'Montana' and my Albertine Rose so it's going to be fun.It should be completely rebuilt but I'm going to bodge it:thumbsup:

8 wheelbarrow loads of bark mulch put on the big flowerbed and one of the little beds and very carefully raked in around the bulbs and shrubs. Hopefully will help counteract all the moss and lichen that grow on there.

Been putting up trellis so my climbers can go for it up the fence. Got a friend to help me do it. The little robin was singing his heart out while we were working. I'm looking forward to seeing that bit of fence covered with greenery and flowers. I'm getting sick of looking at bare wood panels. Just got to sow my seeds now, grow the plants and buy my Clematis.

Thanks @philomel, I think it was you who suggested it? Luckily we had loads left at the bottom of the garden from where we had some trees taken down.

I started putting up deer repellent on the deer fence at the back and when I walked to the front garden I saw 20 deer running across the field in the front!!! Deer pooh all over the back garden. Come back local hunt, all is forgiven!

More potting. Having more or less got the hang of container gardening, this year I'm combining plants in pots, rather than a single plant to a single pot. To that end, I ordered some Creeping Jenny plug-plants. Those arrived today, I must admit they are a little smaller than expected. Anyway, I've re-potted them (in a handy bulb six-pack) like so.
I've put them on the outside windowsill. Do you think they'll be alright to go outside, right next to the house? Or should I grow them indoors for a bit?

I've also combined some ornamental grass and the remaining daffs I had yet to plant out. I was waiting for my next plant delivery, as I might have mix-and-matched, but I've had to postpone new plants until April. The bulbs needed to go out, or I'd never get them out of their tray, so I've combined with ornamental grass. Should look nice when the daffs flower.

I've now used the very last of my compost until more is purchased.

One more question. Will a pieris thrive in the same shady conditions as hostas? If so, I have a large planter, and will throw them all in together in the north-facing front garden.
