Just thought I would post these out of interest:smile:

Here are some tips that work!

Greenfly/Aphids :- Garlic crushed and steeped in water – one clove to a gallon of water (4.5ltrs). Sieve/strain the liquid or else your sprayer will become blocked! Spray over veg or flowers if you don’t mind the smell!

Flea beetles :- on rocket, radishes and brassicas. Leave mint stalks or leaves amongst the plants – cover with environmesh works better!!

Caterpillars on brassicas :– Teaspoon of salt added to a gallon of warm water to dissolve it works. Caterpillars hate salt!

Slugs and Snails :– Oatmeal spread around plants, they eat it and gorge to death!

Beer traps :– not too much in the sunken pots, they love it, so save some for yourself though!!

Couch Grass :- a really deeply rooted troublesome weed. Plant or sow tomato plants in your patch of couch grass, the couch grass dies out and you get tomatoes!

Blanket weed in a pond :- buy a cheap hairbrush and tie to a long handle or bamboo cane. Then push the brush into the blanket weed, twist and pull out, do this gently though!

Just use a bamboo cane and save the cost of a hairbrush ;) (and don't forget to leave it on the side of the pond so any pond life can get back in the pond. Then stick the blanket weed into your compost bin)

A pot of fresh brewed coffee then leave to go cold ,(mix rate 10% ) I normally make up and pour the whole lot in to a 2 gallon watering can in water then poured over the soil by hosta just before they sprout etc and will stop the slugs and sails in there tracks kills them in the soil and you can cover a good length of border . Its a green method and doesn't effect anything else.

You can also use the above in a sprayer during the summer and helps deter the slugs and snails off the leaves.

Coffee grounds use around the base of Azalea Rhododendrons Hydrangea helps to keep the soil acid .

Yes being woken up when they are asleep before 11 am:heehee:

Sometimes, leaving the garden chairs and table out in different places each night will worry badgers enough that they will leave.

If you know what the problem is (e.g. leatherjackets,), the answer may lie in an insecticide, applied to the lawn as per manufacturer’s instructions.

Try putting an upside - down bucket on the lawn at night with a cheap radio underneath set to Radio 1 or 2 at low volume (so as not to disturb the neighbours!) and move the whole lot around every night or two. This sometimes works wonders!

If that fails, try putting some old pie dishes and other bits of silver foil, or even old CDs onto some string, and hang the string from the end of a garden cane. Put several of these contraptions around the garden and move them every night or two. The movement and reflected light from the foil or discs can make a badger nervous so that it goes elsewhere. Children's seaside windmills can also be used.
