Gutted

Hi All. been growing a climbing rose on the shed for more years than I can remember ,at least 15 +. Anyway my wife & I went out to do some pruning ,I started on the clematis so she thiught she would do the climbing rose. She asked how do I prune it, I replied new growth by about 1/3 to 1/2.
Being a bit deaf she thought I said " in half" !! I turned round to see how she was doing and nearly dropped on the floor.She had almost cut the whole rose down by half . You can see by picture below the result. To say I was gutted is an understatement. It was around 2 feet above the top of shed and needed steps to prune it now I can get to it on my knees!! We used to have loads of lovely yellow flowers and I doubt if I will see it back to its full glory in my lifetime.
For a whole day I was depressed ,doubly so as she also dug up an old sweet william and a hardy geranium which was 3 years old and coming on nicely.There was no point in getting angry as what is done is done but must admit a bit inside me of enthusiasm has died.

Looks fine to me , but to give it a helping hand a good rose fertiliser will work wonders and then a good mulch with manure if you can get any , all is not lost

Edit ps I would also if possible bend horizontally a couple of the branches and you will have new growth all along the stem plus more flowers

I think that looks fine, I would much rather have flowers lower down where they can be enjoyed than 12ft in the air!
I have a very old climber whichhad flowers at 15ft last summer, you could see them over the hedge from down the street! If the hardy geranium is still in the ground it will soon bounce back as well.
