I can't make up my mind on which white wisteria to buy for my pergola. I plan on painting it blue and then want it to be covered with a white wisteria. It's my subtle nod to supporting birmingham city fc. Heres a pic of the pergola.

So does anyone have any recommendations on which one to get. and which would be most suitable please? My garden is south facing btw

Wisteria sinensis alba has shortish racemes of flowers before the leaves appear and is scented. It sometimes flowers twice in a year. Wisteria floribunda alba has flowers and leaves at the same time, the racemes are much longer than W. sinensis but not scented. Wisteria brachybotrys (used to be venusta ) is slightly more tender. Shiro Kapitan is the most widely available form with cream flowers and furry, silky foliage.
If you want clear white then the first two are favourite. Then it's a choice between showy flowers or scent:)

The first two you mentioned were the ones i had looked at alone with Wisteria floribunda 'Snow Showers'

I would def prefer something that is really hardy I don't want tender I want to make gardening as easy as possible for myself

If I'm honest i would also prefer showy flowers over scent. Only because I'm smell sensitive and on days when I'm really sick any smell is over powering and horrible so as i plan to sit under this and its going to be near the lavender hedges. less smell would be better

the snow showers intrigues me as it says it has lime foliage and that could look quite good against the blue i think

have you ever had any experience of this one?

        Hi Dips,
No, the only white wisteria I've planted was venusta, at least that's what the label said! Turned out to be W.m.floribunda and not even white:gaah: As it can take anything up to 7 years to get flowers, it's really annoying when they turn out not to be as labelled. It happened with my first 'blue' one too...turned out pink:scratch: Not sure what the answer is, unless you can buy from a nursery attached to an open garden and see a specimen actually in flower, or buy a flowering specimen . Good luck!

I have Shiro Kapitan only downside I thought the flower stems would be longer , its early to flower as well so can get caught out by the frost , then it looks like brown and white (not good)

            Thanx guys

I think shiro kapitan is def ruled out and sinensis alba is too. I have wisteria amethyst falls at the end of my garden and the flowers on those are stubby and short so i really fancy the luxury of long trailing OTT flowers

Noisette i will be ordering online due to me being mainly housebound. I know my mum wont want to be dragged around nuseries in the search of white wisteria lol so i guess im going to have to take a risk and hope

So found snow showers from this nursery online

            http://www.burncoose.co.uk/site/plants.cfm?pl_id=4336&fromplants=pl_id=4323

            And they have floribunda alba

            http://www.burncoose.co.uk/site/plants.cfm?pl_id=4326&fromplants=pl_id=4323#

Has anyone order from this place before?

I've had a lot of plants from Burncoose. It's an excellent nursery and everything I've bought there has been true to name. Don't know the other one, sorry!

Not a fan of these plants. but do they have a fragrance? if so get the one that smells the strongest, and the one that when the flowers are gone the leaves are the prettiest, and when the leaves are gone the branches have some merit.
