Hello Everyone

We have spent the last few weekends tidying our garden, six visits to the tip with next doors Ivy moved off the fence, It was strangling my Victoria plum, Laburnum, Bramley Apple, and Worcester Permian apple tree and was almost on my Morella cherry tree. Something rather soothing in pulling it all off, I had to get a decorators scrapper to get those tendrils off the fence and a saw to cut its trunk in parts. Now the fence needs a paint too. Thinking of wrapping the tree trunks in cling film and spraying where we can. Just brush top of fence so don't paint the neighbours garden. Got a great sprayer £4.99 it worked great on the front fence last year just red cedar.

The area of the garden at the back of the house which really needs an upgrade needs a fence paint, The old fish pond removing, I had turned it into a natural pond for many years but I cannot stand the midges which are breeding (There is a fog of them by my washing) in the pool being still water. They then bite us all especially the kids so enough is enough. We have decided to swap it for a water feature when I find the correct one. A little worried about the frogs which seams to be everywhere in the garden especially my front garden which is small pebbles and they hide under the low juniper only to sneak out in the evening and attack my feet when I get in my car. I have another little water feature going on my patio a leaf or shell with a fairy its ran by solar and small so its not big enough for the back area but hopefully enough water while the other pool drains in the next month or so. It is really disgusting so I don't think they will not spurn. The back area also has out grown trees which are to be dug out and we are taking all the green rock out and redoing the whole area with fresh alpines and new heathers.

I have just had some deliveries of patio fruit trees Peach, nectarine, Apricot, and a cherry tree. These have now been planted up in huge pots lots of manure, and I have some new strawberries to go in a trio plant. These are to go on my side patio by my bedroom. I have MS so three years ago we had an extension built I can no longer climb stairs. So there is a big paved area although I do have very mature borders to soften it.

I was bed bound for 2 years and then end of 2013 my dad died and my husbands dad died two weeks later on Christmas eve so the garden was much neglected. I have got my husband all motivated and he has done wonders. I sit on a stool or use long tools but things are going well. The glass is back in the green house and I have a few new plants waiting for good weather. Hydrangea slosh, Mock orange, and some strawberries waiting to go in the fruit and veg patch. We recently got a Blackcurrant bush Big Ben. Also a red currant. I had bought some new thorn less raspberry I had plans of putting in pots. My husband found out New Zealand had something to do with it. Him being a Kiwi decided to knick them for his fruit and veg patch.

I have ordered a few more items in memory of my dad a family pear tree for Mike's dad a cherry tree normal size. We are also having a go at Kiwi Jennie in a huge pot by a trellis for Mike's mum she was from Dunedin New Zealand. We tried a Kiwi before in the ground it was not hardy and died so this is a replacement.

I am hoping the kids will get involved in the garden too. My daughter 14 years stays in her room with the Ipad and our son is almost 12 years and he is as bad with the Nintendo. We do manage to get them to harvest the apples, plums and cherries. so here is hoping to build upon that. May be they will even eat veg grown.

Well that is what we have been up to or planning sorry I cannot show pictures yet but I will in the future.

My profile picture was me at Christmas in Austria hence the hood escaping from home because we both missed our dads at Christmas.

So sorry to hear about your father and father-in-law but what a lovely idea to plant fruit trees in their memories.

what a fascinating intro ;thank you for sharing all that with us tonight.
Let's hope the kids will see the light one day. Most of us didn't as kids though. And we never had all the gismos that they now have.

I originally planted my cherry tree in 1995 in memory of my grandmother, over the years it brought comfort each season it reminded me of her. So it seams natural to remember others in the same way.
My dad passing was devastating he died due to asbestos he was only 69 years he did not like fuss so seams right to grow him a family pear tree, He liked pears , it has three types one type for me , my sister and my brother, plus he was a joiner he would like the fact it was living wood.
My father in law although originally from Liverpool. I only met him once for 6 weeks when I went home to New Zealand in 1996 so although I was fond of him the bond was not there for me but my husband was devastated as both his parents are now passed. He passed away in Australia so his grave is so far away, the cherry tree we picked is called sunburst and reminds Michael of the Australian sunshine that his dad passed in, 40 degree heat at Christmas.

I suppose as we get older are relatives do too but it still hurts. I am 51 years old and I only feel like a 19 year old inside my head till I look in the mirror. My mum says the same. The fruit trees give us some comfort.I saw that they did this in South Africa in 1986 and in most of Europe they grow a tree over the graves of love ones. So not my idea but one I am happy to pinch.

My dad was in to Blue grass music and he picked a song for his funeral called Jar of Clay by Pin Monkey. (on youtube if your curious) Ironically he left it on his computer after he died we found it. Along with pay his mate a bet. They had been betting for years who would go first and he left instructions to pay his dues. we where stunned there was nothing else. I think the song said it all although my mum only heard make my coffin strong and long which was not the message lol It is actually a really good bluegrass song.
