    In 1988 t'other half asked me if I wanted one of these or an apartment in Portugal for my 40th/our 20th. After much deliberation I said the apartment :hate-shocked: but I still have it and it has paid for itself many times over with long lets. :hapfeet: We are thinking of selling it now and with the current rate of exchange I wonder how we would have fared financially had I said the car? :noidea:

    Here's a couple of my proper classic Minis from the 60s, I owned about 6 or 7 - varying from the basic Morris Mini Minor 850 to full Rally Spec Cooper S:

      Then my first BMW Mini, it was the second Cooper off the production line, I ordered it about 18 months before they started making them. This is a slightly better photo than the 60s, it was taken by a professional for Which magazine, we appeared in an article about the new Mini and they wanted opinions from the first owners :)

        I've owned a few over the years (and the 1.6 Gti) and they are awesome. I wish that I had kept a couple of the better ones now :wallbanging:

        The only thing that I've had that came close (especially in giggle factor) was my old Alfasud 1.5ti - THE original hot hatch. The ass ache (apart from the rust) was having to replace the front discs and pads every 3/4000 miles as they were inboard.

        How much do you wish that you still had that!
        I owned a Reno 4 van - equally as cool nowadays.

          We were staying at an old vicarage and there was a wedding at the church next door. A lot of the guest were veteran car enthusiasts. :blue thumb:

            I hated almost everything about it (the suspension was a good giggle though, especially sitting at traffic lights with everyone in the car bouncing up and down :biggrin:)

            0-60mph - never
            0-50mph - only with written notice
            Unique, but universal starting system (stubby screw driver, although any similar implement would do :biggrin:)
            Brakes that had similar properties to cheese (quick to heat, and then just melt away....)
            Bodywork (hand painted red and white) was rotten, especially the floor.

            It was a death trap. Even Jesus himself couldn't resurrect that car - - so bad, I took it to the local scrappie and refused to leave until I saw it crushed.

              One of the people that worked for me in the sixties swore by his Morris 8 Series 1. It was the biggest pile of junk I had ever seen on the road. It was always breaking down and the thing was rotting to pieces. The driver's seat broke away from the body so he replaced it with a deck chair he had lying in his shed!!

              When it eventually gave up the ghost he had it taken to the local tip (his friend towed it with his LandRover) and, literally, tipped it. The tip was an old gravel pit and he got the car to the upper edge of the tip and we had to push it over whilst he played 'The Last Post' on his trumpet!! The tears were running down his face :cry3: (they were running down mine as well, but it was from laughing!).

                    Mrs H's boss brought this round to our house in 2004. Can't believe how little the grand kids were. Its an Italian red car beginning with F , possibly Fiat :scratch:

                            A Manx rear registration plate for anyone that may be interested. Ignore the letters, this was a special request from my daughter living in Canada. We have our own registration numbers here, many of which read for example MAN-123-B or the second and third letters will be -MN-123-B. Our government office has recently released special edition numbers starting ie. MANX-123 these will set anyone buying back a minimum of £5000! :doh:
