This seems to be how it is these days, I have often been thanked profusely for phoning people back who have left messages on my answerphone and twice when I have cancelled doctors appointments they have said "thank you so much for letting us know" apparently people just don't show up if they have changed their minds, disgraceful.

This is too true and it's not like we don't have any way of communicating these days,

Really glad you got your card back @Adendoll - you must have felt so relieved! The worry of it can be quite something!!

Two weeks ago, someone left their card in the reader at our local supermarket. Mr "M" discovered it (no choice really, he couldn't put his card in!) Initially, the cashier said she would take it. I said he should hand it in to customer services. He did.
When he caught up with me outside, I asked him if they had taken his name and contact number and he explained that the person at customers services didn't even seem to know what to do with one that had been handed in, let alone take any details!
So, for the person going back and asking, and getting it returned, they will never know that it was down to the integrity of an honest customer (who, had he been otherwise inclined, may slipped it in his pocket and used it for less honest purposes ;) ) in our particular instance.

@"M" It wouldn't be much use without the pin number though.

You don't *need* a pin number for online shopping @Val..

True, but I was assuming the owner would report it missing ASAP

Well, to be fair, the owner didn't notice ASAP ;) Only takes someone with a smartphone and the card and voila! Wouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

Disclaimer: I have no personal experience in utilising anyone's card for illicit purposes! I'm just posting on hypothetical scenarios.

Damn  I forgot about smartphones, probably because I haven't got one, but yes, that is definitely a loophole in the card safety.

it's easier for a rich man to enter heaven, than it is for a poor man to enter his pin number! [IMG]
