          Hiya Joolz :blue thumb:

I imagine they will go to seed, but you could take them as you need them early on. If I'm being honest, I really don't know what will happen with these, as they're still in the green (unlike sets). Must be worth a go?

They are biennial and will go to seed. You could treat them as early 'Spring Onions', removing any soft outer bits from the bulbs plus any tatty leaves and use them for salad stuff, hens will eat the discards.

Autumn sown ones are for giving an earlier crop the following year, maybe a month or two earlier? Problem with them though is that they have a tendancy to bolt. Since yours have not been planted out, they will no doubt have been stressed and are pretty much certain to bolt, imo. I would go ahead and plant them out, and use what you can.

That's what I was thinking, regardless of them being overwintering/autumn planting seeds, that they would still bolt.

I also thought that being kept in cell trays over winter that they would be root-bound and it would be a devil of a job to get the roots to spread beyond from might well a solid block of them. @joolz68 Don't suppose you could ease one out for a pic of the roots?

Yes, get them in ASAP, very gently teasing the roots out a bit when transplanting, but be prepared to lift at the slightest sign of bolting.
