    Not for me Capney.
The "in yer face" crocus bug me,
and I think a church scene in mono chrome is dreary,

No, I like it, Jenny. It's a different, interesting, perspective and with images like that you have look at it and then look at it again because there's a lot of thought behind it. I don't take many mono shorts but I do like them. I think that images on computers can also lose/gain something due to the data and a the difference in monitor settings, which is why you can't really trust colours of flowers images on computers as they can differ greatly and not actually be true. Which is why looking at this shot it seems be a bit flat in contrast but I suspect the actual original image is a different "animal":dunno::coffee::snork:

Yes. The "punch" has been removed from this picture, on my photoshop and mac its sharp as a tack and the contrast is much improved.

Everyone sees things in a different way Jenny and it also depends on what you 'want' from a photograph. I have a very critical eye as a perfectionist and that criticism is particularly harsh with my own abilities in everything I do. It's hard for me to live with something I've found personal fault with and can't alter. Some of the shots in my Manx thread bug me big style but I have to live with those because I can't turn the clock back and take them again.

The point I'm trying to make is (and I don't mean to offend)......with Capney's picture, I studied it completely for faults first as I do with every photo or work of art I look at, before my eyes come back to rest on the subject of the shot and to study the content. However, I would never criticise someone elses work without invitation and being the harsh critic I am I would be gentle with my response. Ask me to do the same for my own work and I'd tear it apart, and if I asked someone else to criticise my work I'd expect them to do the same. :)

Sea horizons......every photographers nightmare probably. It's sooooo good when you get it right!

As mentioned by @ARMANDII , the black and white church is flat (especially the background). The colour one though , with the distorted church behind, is spot on in my opinion. I would have been very happy if I had taken it.
Nice colours, sharp foreground interest, blurred background, distorted church :blue thumb:
            I say ..... Well done :)
Personally I love a bit of distortion. Have a look at these:

It can be done well, but equally badly too.

I like monochrome photography and ironically have never tried it, something I must correct and soon!

Monochrome is not an issue for me in this shot but I think the crocuses looming large in the foreground make the picture a little to busy and heavy because it is monochrome. I think I would have put a little more distance between lens and crocuses or brought the camera slightly higher. I wonder how a colour shot would have compared?

Taken directly into the morning sun. Question is... Have I got away with it?

Picture the scene Armandii. :) My son also a perfectionist and I, several years ago took two and a half hours to level and screw six brackets to his bedroom wall one above the other, evenly spaced.

I am the same, for graveyards...! The overgrown ivy gives you that creepy feeling that the tombstone has been laying there for years and years...

Depends on what you mean by "did I get away with it?", Paul:scratch::snork: Were you trying to minimise the over exposure of the Sun, trying to get a back lit pic of the flower? For me, my eye is drawn, unfortunately, to the bright patch of the Sun rather than focusing on the subject but it might work for other people.:dunno:

Not sure what I meant Armandii. Some of the pics in fu;ll perfect balanced light look a bit flat to me, and if this one had been slightly less bright, there's a 3D look sometimes. Not sure if it makes it in this one.
