I think the coin machines on the trolleys were to stop people just dumping them wherever they wanted or was most convenient, without the coin machines this will start happening again of course they will just be left anywhere!! :dunno:

It's just an updated version of the thru'penny bit and probably both have the same value. :)

We will no doubt have the Manx version at some point without our national emblem/flower I hope.

Why don't you want your national emblem/flower @Sheal ? I thought your emblem was the 3 legs, not sure what your flower is?

Can't do that at Sainsbury's. The wheels lock if you go outside their car park.

Our local Sainsbury's is quite up to date. They obviously have some sort of radio circuit that disables the trolley wheels.

They also allow us three hours parking which enables us to go shopping in other shops as well. They don't have a lot of car park attendants (it's a big car park) as the system photographs your number plate on entry, displays it on a board as you drive in and shows what time you have to be out by. I assume that if it doesn't log you going out before the end of your time a man comes and tickets the car.

In the next town Sainsbury's are upstairs in a shopping centre. You pick your trolley up in the car park downstairs and there's a travelator to take you up. The moment the trolley is on the travelator the wheels lock on to it (presumably magnetic) so there's no danger of it rolling down again. Very good for mums with young kids. :blue thumb:

The 'Triskelion' or Three Legs of Man is our Royal Coat of Arms and our national flower is Ragwort, a poisonous weed. The island has a lot of Fuschias growing wild and this would be a much better idea but currently our coins have all sorts of island related pictures on the reverse side. :)

Although ragwort is poisonous it gets a rather harsh press. It's an alkaloid that if eaten in quantity can cause cumulative adverse effects in the liver. Horses would still need to eat quite a lot to be poisoned. Goats can take quite a high amount of it.

It's not poisonous for humans to handle it but it's only harmful if ingested.

In Morrisons you dont have to go out the carpark for the wheels to lock.
Quite often one wheel is locked permanently.

On the subject of supermarket trollies, I hate wet ones, especially when full of litter.
Why dont anyone ever clean the bloody things?

I'd still rather look at a Fuschia Shiney than the dull flower of Ragwort. :)
