11.05am. Eclipse finished here at 10.44. Sure enough the cloud has now started to thin out and I just caught my first glimpse of the sun. :wallbanging: :gaah:

Too cloudy here to see anything, hardly went dark either since it was already gloomy. Even the birds carried on singing. Could see inside our restaurant and had a good view of the big TV screen showing stargazing live, it looked stunning up in the Faroes.

So here are my fairly undramatic photos taken in the garden during this morning's eclipse.

I simply took the first photo at the start of the eclipse, fixed the camera settings manually and took pictures at regular intervals on the same settings.

Watch and marvel as it goes from dull to duller and back again. :heehee:

      8:30. Start of eclipse.
      2015 Eclipse 002 - Copy.JPG

      9:00. Half an hour in. 2015 Eclipse 003 - Copy.JPG

      9:15. Fifteen minutes from maximum. 2015 Eclipse 004 - Copy.JPG

      9:30. Maximum eclipse. 2015 Eclipse 005 - Copy.JPG

      9:45. Fifteen minutes after maximum. 2015 Eclipse 006 - Copy.JPG

      10:30. End of eclipse.
      2015 Eclipse 008 - Copy.JPG

      Exciting stuff eh?

Just in case that sequence of pictures wasn't thrilling enough for you, here are the temperatures recorded by my weather station at half hourly intervals throughout.

      7:00 4·6C
      7:30 4·7C
      8:00 4·9C
      8:27 - Start of eclipse
      8:30 5·2C
      9:00 5·4C
      9:30 5·1C
      9:33 - Maximum eclipse
      10:00 5·3C
      10:30 6·6C
      10:44 - End of eclipse
      11:00 7·7C

Noticeable that the temperatures fall only gradually from about half an hour in, but there is a much faster rise in temperature as the sun returns. Presumably due to the early morning timing of the eclipse.

Minimum temperature during the eclipse itself was 4·9C at around 9:50, nearly twenty minutes after maximum eclipse.

Have I bored you all enough yet? :snork:

Clouds broke up enough for quite a good view here N. Yorks / Durham border. About 90% eclipse I guess.

thank you all for showing us unfortunates ( who never saw a bloomin' thing..,. ) your fascinating piccies of the real deal...
:th scifD36:  but why is the eclipse the other way round on some folks views?..:noidea:
If that was what you saw, then why did it appear that way for you?
            I'm sure there's a logical explanation...

depends where the moon was covering the sun.. mine is at the bottom because it was during the height of the eclipse (centred with only the bottom of the sun showing as a crescent), those with a different angle, where before or after the main eclipse, as it moved across. So that's why it appeared at different angles.

Some very nice photos of eclipse from GC members. :dbgrtmb:

For reasons I don't know (and am still wondering why), during the eclipse period all I saw was the big bright sun though it became a lot dimmer for a while then brightened up again.

I did take a few pictures, they are sort of interesting in their own way.

9:10 the cloud started to disperse
              image.jpg

9:18 the sun was well above the clouds by now and it should be quite eclipsed, but ... However I could see the reflection of the eclipsed sun (just below the sun) through the camera lens but not with my naked eyes.
              image.jpg

9:21 again the sun and its reflection on the lower right.

I sat outside this morning on the Patio with a mug of tea and watched the whole eclipse with clear blue skies. I used an empty opaque lunch box that I'd sprayed two coats of dark red lacquer onto and it worked perfectly as I could see the Sun and the Moon shadow spot on and the lunch box was big enough to hold comfortably and also reduce side glare. Then as the eclipse finished the clouds rolled in and completely filled the skies..........perfect timing!!:hapydancsmil::coffee:

Check out the animation here and you'll see the visible part of the Sun changes from the left hand side, to the underside and then to the right hand side. http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/uk/oxford

My pics above were taken in the later stages (Sun to RH side), but when I got my first glimpse through the murk it was like this

                  eclipse11.jpg

                  then moved to this

                  eclipse middle.jpg

and then swung around to the other side

@HsuH I can't understand how you 'missed' it, it should have been like this at Bristol http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/uk/Bristol

I checked times, angles of inclination and likely locations (to get a bit of foreground) in advance and your pics seem very similar to this pre-eclipse one I took.

                    eclipse not.jpg

However, I do see an image of what I'd expect to see as 'flare' in the images - did you overexpose?
