Good morning. I just signed up and realized this is forum is in the UK. Are there any people here in a zone 3? Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing what everyone has to say about their experiences in the garden

Hello welcome, I am down in the USA. Been with this forum for a while now. Enjoyed the company, hope you do also. My zone is 6, but, as I am a frugal gardener, I rarely trust a zone 6 plant unless it says vigorous then I know it can handle a possible deep freeze. Anyway, so I focus on zones 4 and 5. Really don't see many zone 3's for sale, but will have to pay attention. For your area, you might chance a zone 4 but put it near your house, your house does give off heat. There is a supper hardy zone 4 hydrangea called Annabelle, I have it on the west side of the house where the wind in the winter pounds the poor thing horridly, and it keeps coming back year after year. The flowers are huge cream colored, the plant is not the type to change with soil ph. It shots out babies under the soil well, so I have two of its children in another area, now coming back on their third year, and they seem to bloom the very next year, not like some other fussy ones that you pray over for 3 years and still wait. I know you did not ask anything about a plant, just rambled on.

Welcome to our side of the garden fence and delighted to see you there

I have no idea what "Zone 3" means in real terms or even gardening terms :noidea: but hey (!) we welcome every one with a genuine interest in gardening and knowledge sharing :dbgrtmb:

Looking forward to enjoying your companionship across the forums :)

            Welcome to GC!

Not into the zones so much here, but I do have to work out which side of the border I am to know what language to speak!

Hi Allison, welcome to Gardeners Corner:thumbsup::snork:. We're global but hearing from gardeners in different countries is part of the benefit and interest of GC. From what I understand from some Canadian amateur Astronomers I know the Jet Stream has a great effect on your weather similar to what it does for the UK..........although you get more snow and ice than we do. Have fun, the Gang are very friendly and always willing to chat and help.:coffee::snork:

Thank you all! And thank you redstar for that information on the hardiness of Annabelle. I will consider that one! I am also a frugal gardener. I have got my cold frame up and ready because "zone 3" is a terrible well um not a desirable climate to grow. Our season is about 3 months. Would it be silly to move south just so I can have a longer season lol. Do people do that? I envy those people that get to garden half the year [emoji5]
Right now I have my seedlings in the frame. It's 20 Celsius in there so I hope they won't go into shock.
                  Anyway good morning y'all [emoji477] [emoji477]

                    Hi, and thank you.
This winter has been so mild. We have been getting chinook after chinook! Fortunately (for me) we don't get as much snow and it doesn't stay as cold. But then again.... Better knock on wood because one never knows what the seasons will bring these years.

Welcome to Gardeners Corner Allison. :) Alberta is east of British Columbia where my daughter lives. I didn't realise what a big difference there could be between weather in neighbouring states. I know the mileage is a whole lot different there compared to our own country but perhaps you should move west instead of south! :)
