Possibly a random question, but I hope you outdoorsy lot can help!
I wear my wellies a lot for dog-walking/gardening etc. I went through several pairs of cheap-but-pretty, high-street wellies which all split, before 'investing' in a pair of Hunters. More expensive, but they were supposed to last for years. However, after a couple of years, they have perished badly all over! A quick google reveals that Hunters aren't what they used to be, after production was farmed out to China, the newer ones can't be expected to last... I'm very disappointed, given the price.
Which leads to the question, are there ANY wellies out there that won't perish or split after just a short time?! I won't be splashing out on Hunters again. Gutted.

Crikey - my first response was actually going to be: Hunters!
So, if they have fallen short of your expectations, my knee jerk would be to contact the company! Why? Because not only do those willies have a reputation to uphold, they are one of the few to carry a double Royal warrant - and it is on *that* that they base their reputation.

I've had mine for over 18mths now ... if they do not make another 18 months, I would certainly be kicking up a fuss! Pay premium price, you do expect a good few innings from them.

PS: Ah, just read the "China" angle ... are you *certain* they were genuine "Hunters"? The Chinese are masters of repro! Just saying

As if there wasn't enough pressure on us men, now we have to uphold a reputation too

Hunters used to be made in my hometown, but sadly they have farmed out production around the globe due to labour and material costs; its a real shame, because they were a top notch product made by people who genuinely cared.

The only downside was the smell of the place - - you often got some right nasty niffs as you passed by.

LOL! I didn't initially notice the 'auto-correct' (yeah, we believe you. You know that auto-correct is based on the words you type most frequently, right?). ;-)
Yes, unfortunately, they are genuine Hunters. My first thought was to go the customer-services route, but then I googled. It seems many others have tried, and they just don't care about 'upholding their reputation.' Clearly, cheaper production costs outweigh long-term loyalty. (And I suppose, given that their prices have remained the same, despite drastic cost-cutting in quality, it will be a while before a tarnished reputation affects them, given that profits weren't based on repeat customers anyway, as the whole point used to be that Hunters were made to last!).
I'm wondering about water-proof hiking boots, or something?
The internet seems to agree that Hunters are rubbish, but everything else is worse. Boo. :-(

My last pair of wellies lasted 38 years! I asked for some boots that would last and he told me the ones he sells to abattoirs would be the best. They certainly were. Nowadays you may need to ask an abattoir where they get their boots from. :blue thumb:

Now they were worth every penny!!! Question is, if you ever buy another pair, will they be the same quality? :dunno:
