What jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2015

It's dark, raining and miserable outside so I'm not sure much will get done today out there unless things brighten up. I'm going to have another cuppa and start pricking out. I know it's early but there's nowt like an early start.

I have to plant three 8ft concrete post to hold up my hedge which is heavy with numerous climbers because the old conifer stumps holding it up have rotted!

 

A nice relaxing day in the garden for you then Pal....NOT...

It's a drizzly one here so it'll be a GH day but just realised I need to mix some compost so I will be getting wet after allmight as well go the whole hog and get soaked through and put my Strawberry gutters up,I cant keep waiting for the weather to decide what it's doing...

 

I might do but I'll have my vest on too,no casting a clout round here yet

 

I was going to do more painting but its tipping it down so I will be doing nothing in the garden today. I do love gardening because the weather forces pacing on you.

 

Not done much so far today. I've pricked out my gardeners delight seedlings - looks like we'll be looking for swaps / good homes as 9 plants is more than enough, especially as we also have Harbinger and tumbling Tom seedlings (but about a week behind, although all were sown on the same day. The chilli seedlings are looking good

I'd also put three courgette seeds in one pot, so of course all germinated! They are now in separate pots, and hopefully won't sulk too much from the root disturbance.

I want to sow some more seeds, but don't have the space at the moment. Typical problem for this time of year!! I think I will have to set up some temporary tables under the velux windows - the nearest that I can get to a greenhouse! Hopefully I will be able to move some out into cloches in a couple of weeks' time?

 

Been splitting some perennials and potting them up and finally got all bits of the garden (except the pesky far end) looking tidy. Planted the window boxes with verbena (fairly drought resistent, so hope they will cope while we are away). Planning renovation of the very back of the garden later in the spring (deadish massive wisteria and old tree to be disposed of and the whole area renovated and hopefully beautified).

btw, bought some cheap secateurs at lidl £1.79 I think and a bargain, seem very sturdy for the price (I never buy expensive ones while always end up going MIA).

Didn't get half as much done as I expected sieving ,mixing and microwaving compost took longer than I expected or I'm not as quick as I used to be...

 

Spent this morning fixing up some willow screening and removing the gravel and weed matting from the front garden. This is the first time I've done anything in the front garden since moving in in 2011. I've put some of the gravel around the side of the bungalow - to tidy it up - the rest was thrown into a skip. Fortunately its started to rain so I had to call it a day. I will no doubt 'pay' for my exuberence tomorrow morning - by aching all over.

 

Got nothing done (except for sowing some seeds) as it has piddled down all day.

 

I began the prep work for the removal and turning the lawn into a court yard garden,,,

I had removed the 4m of lawn edging kerbing, that was kinda of buried under the edge of my lawn by 4-6inch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I've dug earth out to expose the edging, then with a cold chisel and lump hammer, hack away at the concrete foundation is was on, then slowly removed the edging, it has taken me 4 hours to remove the dam stuff, so glad I'm not keeping the lawn, so the soil and rubble heap, isn't a problem...

 

I've pruned my Buddleia, pulled up lots of Sycamore seedlings from my planters, removed and binned some dead plants from last year's planters, potted on two dwarf Rhodos and a little Magnolia Grandiflora, plus spread some Westland Gro Sure Easy Flowers on some planters.

 

Potted up some tomato and lupin seedlings. Sowed a few Brussels sprouts in pots.

Emptied out one of my 4ft x 4ft compost bins and spread all that lovely stuff over the veg plots.
