I don't think that there is any drug that can kill dental pain unfortunately .
I hope you manage to get a bit of sleep FC...:fingers crossed:

You great northern Jessie :heehee: That's not toothache if painkillers help, it's just an itch :roflol:

I did exactly the same thing but snapped one front tooth and chipped the corner off the other. I went home with caps the same day. Eeeee, t'were great when NHS dentists still existed.

When I had my cock up with painkillers trying to ease tooth ache the hospital gave me morphine - no effect at all. I had to wait another four hours before I could have something else and they injected me with Keta something or another - bliss!

Seriously @fat controller - if it doesn't ease off get it looked at.

FC just be mindful that if the swelling starts to extend underneath the "jaw bone" into the neck it can be dangerous and you will need to seek "Urgent" care.
I would still run your symptoms by your dentist or nhs direct via the telephone tonight, just to check they are ok for you to be left overnight untreated.
Sorry to nag! Hope you get sorted soon, blooming awful pain toothache!

It was a compound. I can't remember the name on the wrapper as to be honest it left me rather monged out (even more than the morphine did).

I really keep my fingers crossed for you hoping that tomorrow you feel better.

Other than that, I can only suggest to rinse your mouth with vinegar and apply whisky/vodka or similar with cotton to the area affected. If it was my mouth I would sterilise a needle and pierce (but then I never had an access, it may be a bad idea)...

It does work if it is to the side. Mind you the dentist looks at you like you're some sort of "head job" when you tell them "what I did last night" :hate-shocked:

Well, I got some sleep last night, at least until I rolled onto the 'wrong' side and laid the right side of my face on the pillow - - that got me up a bit sharpish. Been a busy day today, and the pain killers have been keeping the pain dulled, however I started to run a temperature this afternoon and felt a bit sick/dizzy so thought it was time to ring the dentist for advice.

My own dentist is off now for the rest of the week, however the receptionist said she would ask the advice of one of the other dentists and get back to me - - five mins later, I got the call... "Errrr, where are you now?" "At home...." "Good - can you get here ASAP"

Suffice to say, I have come out with a bit of an ear-bashing and instructions when to head to A&E and a prescription for antibiotics.

If the dentist was up to much you shouldn't have to worry A&E.

Why didn't they give you antibiotics from the start?

To be fair pete, I can't knock them - they have been top notch with me to date, and have managed to get me from a gibbering wreck that would rather haul his own teeth out than go to the dentist (and no, I am not kidding) to someone that will now go and be relatively calm.

He showed me the infection on the x-ray, and warned me that it might kick off a bit, but thought that it wasn't all that bad to necessarily need anitbiotics; it was fine for the first six or seven hours, and then it went Radio-Rental. Don't forget that even doctors are very reluctant to give anitbiotics nowadays too.

Ok, I have to admit that I'm a great southern Jessie! Hypodermics freak the shino out of me :yikes: When I had my accident with the painkillers I was hooked up to a monitor and my heart rate went up 50bpm at the sight of the needle.
So like you I now have a dentist that I trust implicitly. In fact so much so that when I broke the tooth that caused the mess up with the painkillers I turned down an appointment with his son and decided to wait for my dentist to return from holiday resulting in my hospitalisation as I tried to get through the next few days. Once I'm past the needle I'm fine.
