image.jpg image.jpg First post so hi all. So this shrub or tree has sentimental value and I'd like to pot it up and ideally keep it alive! Any thoughts as to what it is and best soil to use in a container? Cheers

      Hi

And welcome , its a very nice looking "

      Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata Aurea'
      Golden Irish Yew

It will need a very much larger pot or a good size half oak barrel , soil requirements is John inns soil based compost no 3 and you will need to mix in xtra horticultural grit when planting , will need a sunny spot and its very slow growing , what the story about the Yew ?

do not plant in a cheap multi-purpose compost if you want good results

Great knowledge spruce, and thanks. It's bugged me for years that. The yew was a sapling my old man decided to dig up (!) on one of his winter walks a good few years back. Sadly I've been neglecting it ever since, but it's become a lot more precious. Not a great deal to look at granted! Will take your advice, cheers
