    Hi Sian

they will be fine where they are , you are correct they are solidarity mason burrowing bees ? which ones though :dunno: plus they are Belgium:snork:

they do like well drained sandy soils in a sunny spot

Didn't see the nesting material until after downloading pic, been watching some of their aerial mating display antics for a while

Just a quick shot from my pocket point and shoot whilst out puppy walking this morning.

well, i've been out with the camera, and managed to get some photos that are not just "arse of bee"! Made all that more complicated by having a dog wanting to show me her stick, or to see what I was so interested in.... DSC_0088.JPG
a number of them seem to have these lovely yellow pantaloons! DSC_0094.JPG

These are actually three different bees... DSC_0102.JPG
It was nice to be using my Nikon again - I really should dust it off a little more often:smile:

(But boy - looking this close, it really is sandy "soil" - no wonder all of our plants seem to be self-dwarfing!)

          Hi All

I saw my 1st House Martin for 2015 at 7.00pm feeding over the river at the bottom of my garden so the others should be here in a day or two :fingers crossed:

I'm in West Cheshire gardening on 300-450 feet of pure sand, Sian, with a old Roman Sand Quarry about 30 yards from the front of my House but I like gardening on sand. Okay, the soil is always hungry and doesn't hold nutrients as clay does, but it's fast draining and never gets flooded. You can improve the soil, over the years, with additions of compost, [home
made and commercial], which is what I have done and the plants love it.:dunno::coffee::snork:

So don't put it away again, use it!!:heehee:

They might not be, Sian, as Bee colonies can have different markings etc for different roles within the Hive.:snork:

Well, they were taken over three different holes, and two different sites (ie about 10 metres apart)

Spruce!! (Sorry, don't know how to do two differnt quotes in a reply!) the nearest thing I have ever had to fame, with one of my photos!!

Sat in the summerhouse having a cuppa this evening, I noticed this little beauty on the door. Can anyone tell me what it is?

I have a male Blackbird in the garden that when I put Sultanas down on the old bird table every morning I whistle for him and he flies in and feeds only a foot away quite bold and unafraid. Some mornings he's actually waiting for me in the Lilac next to the table. But all the time he would not let any bird feed at the table and would chase off any other bird using claw, beak and scoldings. But this morning I went down to the bird table and put the Sultanas on and, to my surprise, a really lovely female Blackbird flew into onto the table quite unafraid and started eating the Sultanas. I immediately looked around in expectation that the male Blackbird would fly in as usual and drive off the female he had done every time in the past.
Turning to the side I saw the Blackbird was, in fact, in the Lilac only a couple of feet away from me. He just sat there watching the female and let her feed, when she had finished he flew onto the table and started to feed. I suddenly realised that I was being honoured and introduced to his mate and this was his way for introducing us and letting me know that his mate was able to feed at the table!! He's definitely no Bird Brain!!:coffee::snork:
