Red Rum Rose - HELP? - no longer available - new name?

Hello

I am new to this forum and am on here with a question. I hope someone can help me please?

As a child my partner's mum had several red roses in her garden which were called 'Red Rum' after the horse presumably.

In memory of his mum, who recently passed away, he would like to get the same rose but it is no longer available. I have searched online and can find no reference of it existing.

Is it likely this rose would now be called by a different name?? Do rose names change??

Am hopeful someone can point me in the right direction as I would love to get the rose ordered as soon as possible, if possible.

Not a rose I'm familiar with; maybe @wiseowl will know of it? In the meantime, as your search isn't proving successful and you wish to get a red rose to commemorate your partner's mother, if all else fails you might like to consider "Remembrance". Shaded Red,scarlet double
24 petals/2.5 inches
slight fragrance/vigorous growth
Parentage Handel x Arthur Bell

This is the Breeder
Bees, Ltd., Sealand Nurseries, Chester, England.

Good afternoon @cazza quin I am afraid I have had no luck yet ,have contacted Margaret Styles of Styles Roses and have spoken to 2 other breeders,I have it on good authority that it is growing in a rose garden nursery in Italy near Florence,so I have contacted some close friends who live nearby to see if they can help yours truly

Not sure if this is going to post in the right place but I'm hoping Wise Owl sees it. Thank you so much for your diligent efforts in tracking down this rose. Fingers crossed your friends can help. We have even resorted to looking on Google Maps to see if the rose is still planted in his childhood home but no such luck - its been dug up. Otherwise we were going to contact the current owners!

My other half said his mum would be tickled pink to see how much effort has gone in to tracking down her favourite rose.

Many thanks again. Hopefully we will be able to get a rose plant ordered. I'm more hopeful than I was this morning. Wise Owl - you truly are - w i s e ! : 0)

Thank you for your email. I’m afraid I can’t find any suppliers of this rose at all. It is quite possible it has been lost from production or re-released under another name but the former seems most likely to me. I’m sorry I can’t be of more help

What about some sort of publicity/appeal in the Southport area? Red Rum was well loved there (I've stroked his nose after training on the beach) so if anyone there had a flutter on him, they may just have purchased a rose with winnings?? Ok it's a very long shot......
