I have a north facing garden and the bit of lawn nearest the house which hasn't see the sun since about November has got quite a lot of moss.

I have been using a treatment on it to kill the moss which has worked quite well in that the moss has turned brown and I've been able to rake quite a lot of it away each week. It's really thick though and I think I'm a long way off from it all going.

Obviously, Im keen to get rid of these brown patches of moss and lay some new grass seed as soon as I can.

Should I just bite the bullet and completely dig it up?

    Does anyone have any tips?

    Many thanks

Have you fed the lawn since using the moss killer Slerski?

Once the moss has been killed off you need to 'kick start' the grass growth in that area so a feed would be a good idea now. The grass will grow a lot quicker over the next few weeks which means more mowing. Once it settles down if you still have patches then that will be the time to over seed.

If you have clay soil it would benefit the lawn by spiking it with a garden fork and brushing some sharp sand into the holes before you feed it. If in the long run you decide to dig up and start again it may be a good idea to use a grass seed for shade for that area.
