hi all, I have bought a tree for my garden and after much deliberation I fell in love with the Tibetan cherry with its peeling bronze bark :wub2: and bought it from a online nursery..... And hubby is refusing to let me put it in the ground cos it grows to 10m ....slight oversight on my part:whistle: can it be grown in a pot?? And how big are we talking ?

About a third of an acre ... I wanted to plant it in a border that has a massive field on the other side but we have a septic tank halfway up the garden which is the main reason hubby says no!when I bought it they said it was a small- medium sized tree so didn't look at the dimensions... My bad.....

Being a cherry I don't think you will have much to fear from it's roots. The root spread of many trees is the same as the tree's height and the thickness of the roots will be minimal at their furthest point. As guidance, I would say if the tree was planted 20ft minimum away from your septic tank then there's not a problem. :) If it was a conifer I'd say send it back!

Tbf the other side of the fence is not mine!! But I think the animals that are in there sometimes will be happy for the shade this half is still a work in progress and considering me and the other half have never before done any gardening I think we are doing a not too shoddy job

the tree next to it may have overhanging branches that may interfere with it in a couple of years time (right hand side)

The trees have never had any attention was planning on getting in an expert to trim them up is it as easy as that? To make room for my spectacular new tree!
