As far as I know; Best in full sun and likes plenty of compost around the roots to keep it moist.

I find they're best in full sun. They only have a show of flower for a fairly short period and the leaves also die away fairly quickly so I like them in a bed of mixed planting, especially alongside plants which are at their best in July/August.

I've also planted them in a gravel path which worked really well.

Bleeding hearts are actually woodland plants and enjoy partial shade. They can do ok in full sun, but will do better when given some shade during the day.

Good afternoon I have several Bleeding Hearts all in partial shade which gives the best colour in full sun the colour fades and they don't last as long;)

      Just taken this one;)

Then I shall be extra thrilled when they flower for you! They are a "beginner" plant insofar as they are quite easy going. Hopefully, when they flower, you will feel encouraged to try other plants.
Remember, Nash - all gardeners have to begin *somewhere* ( but not all gardeners begin at Gardeners Corner ;) You've got a head start being here :) )

I've got two of these, both in partial shade in different parts of the garden. One gets more shade and has been slower to bloom but both seem to improve each year. They are lovely in full flower.

I bought a white one on Friday, planted it in a well drained shady area.

Mine haven't been spoilt by the fairly hefty frost (yet!)which I'm surprised at. Going to be even colder tonight so hoping for the best as they are in full bloom atm and looking lovely. I like then because of their very nice foliage but agree best when you can have something flowering in front of them later as they die down quite early. Nash 1 word of warning, they often don't move that well as become quite woody with age. As long as you treat them with care they do move but aren't as easy to transplant as most herbaceous.
