The definition of Patriotic is according to the Oxford Dictionary:

Having or expressing devotion to and vigorous support for one’s country:

        W
hich is fine and dandy if you take patriotism at it's honourable innocent interpretation, but "Patriotism" has been used as a excuse for wars, ethnic cleansing, excluding some parts of societies from the right to work, freedom of speech, and being segregated. So with our distaste and distrust of the way our Politicians use different interpretations of certain words, including the word "Patriotism" to disguise what they actually mean, I think we should walk carefully around the word before using it.
I am proud of our Country, it's a great country, I'm proud of being British, I'm proud of being English born, but I'm also proud being in a United Kingdom of 4 nations, I'm proud of our democracy, I'm proud of the way other people in other countries have always thought over 6 decades that we are a great place to live and work.
Am I patriotic????..........that depends on your interpretation of the word.:coffee::snork:

Good morning the 50's and 60's were just fine and dandy and I am privileged to have lived through them and enjoyed them,;)

Am I patriotic it depends what day it is:heehee:

In my experience, most people felt that the time when they were young and getting their first taste of adult life but without too much responsibility was the best. My children and their friends look back at the late 80s and 90s with nostalgia whereas my generation always plump for the late 60s and 70s. On that basis maybe in 25/30 years people will say that 2014/15 was great.

                Thank you.

I agree, some posts had become uncomfortable as frequently happens when the discussion heats up. I think we do need to remember that when all is said and done it is a public forum.

Sometimes I'd like another button (as with the "like" etc) which is somewhere along the lines of disliking, uncomfortable or "I'm stepping back" rather than disagreeing which can serve to fuel it further.

Did you say a prayer for the candidate/s you were .... cremating? :heehee:

Disclaimer: this is not a direct attack on Jiffster, his decision to fuel the fire or his opinion on voting; nor is it in any way a suggestion that praying over a log burner is a necessity (other methods of expressing personal faith are available) :phew:

Most of my leaflets are Lib Dem ones slating the conservative party candidate and the amount of leaflets that are coming in different formats from them is ridiculous yet they all say the same thing.

Vote for the candidate that lives in solihull not the tory londoner. What makes me laugh is the tory londoner is originally from up north and lives in solihull now and the lib dem runner isn't from solihull initially anyway lol its pathetic.

So far the mix i have had is a handwritten letter that has been printed loads of times where i could barely read the handwriting, newspaper style stuff, gloss leaflets, dull leaflets, printed letters etc

Im so bored of it and anything that has been sent to me since last thursday is completely wasted as I have already voted

so the election is officially over and has been for a week as far as i am concerned lol

So....what do you make of Milliband meeting up with Russell Brand?
For those who are quick to diss Brand he has a substantial following
(around 1 million was quoted on LBC), via his youtube The Trews and
9.5 million on twitter! [IMG] (That's half a million more than Labour are getting!)

I was listening to a phone in radio programme on this...someone said that it is a shrewd move by Milliband to gain many more votes....could well be! [IMG]

Anyone watch Newzoids on TV? It's like the satirical Spitting Images and on again tonight, ITV @ 9 p.m (well, in London area).

Last week they easily mocked Farage for having a German wife.
                                Lack of integrity there!
