I'd like to know when collecting a certain plant species becomes an obsession.

People who know me know that my passion is Fuchsias, and I've just done a count up and discovered I have ... 75 different species/cultivars/hybrids.

What is the plant you're passionate about ?

Remember that if you have 10 of one variety etc that only counts as one.

I think .... if I was thought of as obsessed by any particular species .....

.... I'd be framing the question just slightly differently: when does collecting become ... an expert in the field  :heehee: :blue thumb:

With 75 ... that would put you up there on the expertise scale @Anthony Rogers :dbgrtmb:

Oooh Anthony I will soon be joining you in the fuschia obsession. Not quite 75 but I do have over 20 now and intend on getting more and more and more .......At the moment most are still in pots but I have a vision of fuschias hedging all round the garden

Thank you for your comments and ratings but I really wanted to see what other people collected and how many they've got. I remember reading some posts about peeps with Hemerocallis, Salvias, and Dahlias, I'd like to know how many they've got.

Not really any particular type, I just love Fuchsias. What other plant species gives you every form of growth, many with variegation, different flower forms of any colour (except for true blue), and delicious berries to eat.

I also give a lot of room to plants that many people grow but don't realise they're actually part of the same family ....... Godetia, Clarkia and Evening Primrose.

                    Rhododendron family for me :wub2:

I have far too many plants in any case, but my passion for Rhodos is only curtailed by the lack of space. 23 so far with another one on the way. Some of them are quite large so take up a lot of space on the patio (they're mostly in planters although a few of them will soon be going into borders). I have to balance it out so I have year round colour/interest, so lots of other stuff in large planters around the place which takes up space I could otherwise use for Rhodos.

I have a 10 x 16 greenhouse full of cacti and succulents. Been collecting them for over 30 years. Does that count? :spinning:

                      In the garden....
My current obsession seems to be Hostas.
And I am getting quite interested in Ferns.
                      And Bamboos
                      And.........

Merleworld, that's brill. Rhodos are another one I love but I just don't have the room for them. I've just bought one though, a R. Ponticum variegata, supposed to be a dwarf growing between 18/24".

Sirius that is serious collecting. Would love to know how many cacti/succulent you've got.

I have about 40 Salvia (mostly species), 15 Tricyrtis species/cultivars and an expanding collection of the Fabaceae family.
I'm starting up a collection of Albuca as well, mostly from seed.

I was getting seriously into treeferns in 2010,had about 18 and growing but the vicious winter that year put an end to that collection :cry3:
I now seem to have an amazing collection of ground elder unfortunately ;)
