Unmanned checkouts in supermarkets to me are a nightmare:yikes:.
They are fine if you are purchasing two or three items, but if you are shopping for ,say the weeks shopping:hate-shocked: :scratch:.

I was doing shopping ,as the wife wasn't at her best, so she gave me a list which contained quite a few items.
I did my shopping ,went to the checkout, was ushered by some character to a unmanned checkout. :yikes:.

To cut a long story short,I finished up shouting at the machine and making a scene in the supermarket . Never Again!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:.

Is it just me or has anyone else had problems with these checkouts ?.

I used one today Morrison's Aberystwyth not too bad I only called in for a couple of things £6.87 I think it was, but my £5 note was a bit wrinkled so had a bit of a battle with the note feeder. got there in the end. The coin feeder is so easy. I had to weigh jacket potatoes so clever ol me.

I use the self checkout most times. I don't often have problems with the ASDA checkouts, but mostly with Morrison's. I leave the light items last, because that is usually when the scale-shelf cannot detect the weight and calls for assistance.

I avoid them if possible. If you have a big shop , why on earth would you want to use them ? Let someone else do it quickly and efficiently while you pack , it gives someone a job as well . Its a no-brainer to me. I'll use them if I only have two or three items . I also think people who use them for big shops , seem to look a bit shadey :th scifD36::biggrin:

Oh God I can't stand them!!! The slightest thing and they raise a hue and cry like you are some goddamn criminal! I find it so hard to get a smooth transaction from them since I invariably buy loose veg and that
requires quite a bit of fathoming to price up. I have been known to shout at them (ala a mild version of Cleese attacking the car in Fawlty Towers). I don't care that people look at me...better than suppressing anger .... oh, I am half Italian so am allowed!

I will go the the manned checkout, but sometimes there is no one there, so use the self checkouts and i always make it go wrong just to get someone to sort it out and then i say to the person that it would have better to have someone on the maned checkout :snork:

Well my M & S have gone in the other direction, i.e. where once there was a fast till service with check out staff, now these have been replaced by these ghastly machines.

On the whole they're fine but..............
That was me last week. I ended up shouting "chuff it" and stormed out. All eight in use were giving agro and the tills all had queues a mile long.

It would be interesting if they secretly planted voice recorders in them,I'd love to listen to them played back.I've had many an argument with the damn things:mute:

                          You talking about me????

As the supermarket I use is almost always very busy, and they usually have at least 15 tills manned, I tend to go to the self checkout. I use the manned ones if they're not busy.

My usual shop is between £20 and £60 and is mainly fresh produce. I, almost, never have problems and save myself a lot of time as I don't have to wait in a long queue. What I find frustrating with the manned tills, apart from the queues, is how slowly people pack their bags and how long it takes for them to fiddle around paying.

The ones who only start packing after they've paid, and only think about paying after trying to have a long chat, then have to look for their purse/wallet to fiddle with before finding money/card, then re-organise their bags blocking the way to the exit, then stand blocking the exit where they start looking for their gloves?

I avoid them like the plague. I am rarely out on my own but the tescos down the road has one and I wont ever use it even if it is free

My brain cant process stuff i'm not use to, so talking to a checkout person i have never spoke to before is hard enough work! Sometimes It sounds like they are talking a completely different language because my brain cant process this voice its never heard.

Then self service checkouts are a nightmare I cant concentrate enough to work out what i need to do and do it right and then there is always the pressure to be quick i find because its suppose to be quicker than someone serving you and my brain doesn't work that fast. Especially in shops where there is lots going on around you like people moving, people talking, banging noises, bleeping noises, lights etc etc my brain cant process all of that and a new machine.

If i had one in my home i could practice on daily I would be sound but I don't and I wouldn't want one in my house that would be weird

So I probably wont use one ever again unless I have a family member or friend with me who can help massively or to be honest just do it for me lol

Well, I like going to Waitrose and using the little gun to do my own shopping.

It means I just go their special checkout, and the only problem will be if I buy alcohol,
and the machine just needs to be approved by the assistant.:old:

In fact I did go the Co-op this morning, and the machine says 'assistant coming', as the machines are near the main assistants, I only have to glare over to them, and they
tweak it from their main machine.:th scifD36:

I like the machine, so long as they work..:yikes:
