Ive got two heaters in the greenhouse at the moment - the heatmat provides bottom heat at about 21'c & theres also a fan heater that kicks in if the air temp gets below 5'c ; works nicely for the chillies, we had a couple of quite heavy frosts to -2'c outside & they dont seem to have noticed, but I wouldnt want to risk it even with the heaters earlier in the year when its cold all night.

I don't heat my greenhouse but, inside there, I have a 5ft x 3ft propagator that I built in 1976. I have it covered in an ordinary sheet of plastic supported on hooped cloche wires.

So they have bottom heat (seedlings are kept indoors until sufficiently strong to go into the propagator) and it's trapped by the plastic. On warmer days I open the plastic, just roll it back, and then close it at night.

Quite often, when I open it up, the cat from down the road is asleep in there

I have 511 Chilli plants (so far) in my polytunnel, I have approximately another 500-600 to pot up.

I chose the same kind of method of germination as Shiney, damp kitchen roll (using rainwater and Nitrozyme) in clear takeaway container and put lid back on., once germinated, I transferred to 18mm Peat plugs (as you can grow so many in a small area), once they had/have put on enough growth, transfer them to 9cm pots using Jacks Magic and Perlite mixed in.

I've just counted mine and I only have 189 Chillies and Peppers. I now feel totally inadequate.

I'm looking to sell some locally, at point of sale, people will get a business card for both GC and also www.Chilli-grower.uk ;)

I did also want to make some chilli sauces this year, at this rate though I'll need to get another freezer :D

I have also upped my polytunnel count this year from 1 to 3x 6mx3m tunnels.

I'll have to see later in the year :snork:
