Our MP's have, quite often, not followed party lines. Even back in Thatcher's day we had a Conservative MP, and a 98% Labour local authority, and the MP raised Mrs T's ire by voting against the party line (not something most people would want to do!). He survived :heehee: but lost the chance of higher office. He still got voted back in at the next election.

As far back as I can remember (I moved to this constituency in 1962) we've only ever had one MP whom I thought put his own, or the party's, interest above the local area. He's now an MEP

Menzies Campbell was our MP from 1987. He has just retired. On the rare occassion I or anybody I know had reason to contact him we ALWAYS got a prompt personal reply and he was highly respected in these parts. I voted for him in the past not necessarily because he was a Lib Dem. He'll be sorely missed and with his retiral we are expecting a SNP gain here :rolleyespink: despite the SNP candidate being the only candidate that doesn't live anywhere near the constituancy which I think is important when considering who to vote for if you care about local issues rather than just what goes on at Westminster or in the pretendy Scottish Parliament.

Snap, Miss Jiff and me had the same, lovely personal letter, but i still won't be voting as none of the leaders of any party have knocked on my door for a chat without media :snork:

I had a funny experience last night.
The UKIP candidate (:yikes:) knocked on my door and when I answered it he just looked at me. Thing is I have some Italian blood so I colour up quite quickly with any sun, I'm going through a can't be assed to shave phase and to finish the job off I was wearing a top that was a gift from my friend after his last trip to Pakistan! So as he tried to work out if I was one of those nasty immigrant types I just looked him in the eye and said "Yeah, suicide bomber in training"!
            He huffed off

Nope. But fear not, if you were on the naughty step and they had been removed you would have got a PM so it must be a glitch.

So is one of my son's. But, he never mentioned it ... so, when we went to visit him last month he opened the door with a full beard. Fair took my breath away (doesn't even suit him!). Trouble is, my mouth engaged before my brain and all that came out was: "Have you turned Muslim?" (I actually thought that was quite tactful really - you never know with students :noidea:)
Silly billy got the hump over that :heehee:

I've not had a single visit from any canvassers and only two leaflets through the door - one for labour and one for lib dems. It's a labour safe seat (lib dems were closest last time) so maybe the other parties can't be bothered. As for some of our candidates, they live all over the shop, including one who lives in Neath (a three and a half hour drive away) :rolleyespink:

I had a similar thing the other day when I called in on one of my "Muslim Bro's. I was greeted with the full Salam followed by "so you've decided to join us then!".

No canvassers ever bother to come out to Shineyland. There are not enough houses to make it worth their while. :noidea: It's a pity because I have some questions I would like them to answer. :heehee:

I`d like to wind a canvasser up too. Last time the jehovas witnesses knocked the door I kept chatting for 45 mins about how my god and their god were the same and were indeed aliens.
Funnily enough theyve never come back since :yay:

I think there is no chance my post was moderated as there was absolutely nothing contentious or offensive. Quite the contrary .
